I've been posting for just a couple days now, but I figured maybe I should introduce myself. I've attempted to write a YA novel since I was 15. Nine years later, I feel like I'm finally closing in on finishing one of my many projects. I'm at 22,000 / 40,000 words in my current WIP, so I still have much more to write, but this one just feels different. In fact, I think I'll have it finished by March 1 (*crosses fingers*). Any advice for getting over the hump and finishing the darn thing?

Welcome to the forum, and best of luck with your WIP. :welcome:

As for getting over the hump, my strategy is: sit down and right something. Anything. Even if it's rubbish filler that's all going to get scrapped, just write something to get you from A to B so you can continue on with the story.

Or jump to a scene you're really excited about.

Just keep truckin' down the road. Don't worry about editing, don't worry about making too much sense. Get the words down - the fixing you can do later.

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the ‘forum jump’ you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. Most of the SYW areas require the password of ….vista. A word to the wise, (50 posts), it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Probably the library.
Welcome William :) Setting smaller goals usually works well when trying to get it done. Like maybe you want to get 5000 words (give or take) written a week? Breaking it up into smaller pieces can make it easier to finish. :)

Keep writing, hope you find the grove and pound out a few thousand words a night.

those guys gave good advice up there. do that (set goals or skip to the good stuff). one other thing is maybe tell someone about the part you're on and talking it out will trigger you.
see this site is helping all ready!

Welcome William!

I always remind myself that nothing happens until you put the words on the page. And each word gets you closer.

It's nice to fly 'cross country, but walking one step at a time will get you there, too!

Good luck-

Kurt

Thanks all! :)

500 words per week--that's what I'm going for... so that gives me four weeks to finish. Yikes, I better get typing.
