Also known as the cross-genre, cross-posting*, Hounds in Space Fantasy Romantic Getaway prompt.

:D

So, for this month, we thought we'd do something a little different. ("We" being Fenika in the SFF forum and myself - not just me and the voices, for a change.)

Partly in an effort to perhaps inspire something a little different, partly to bring a fresh set of eyes to our offerings, and also because for many of us the genres overlap some both in our writings and readings.

... And then partly still because Fen and I were having a conversation at the end of a long day for both of us and one of us came up with the idea and the other one went "Hey, yeah, that sounds GREAT" for no real reason other than it was the end of a long day and before either of us knew it we were actually putting the idea forth to various peoples who instead of looking at us as if we'd lost our minds the way they should have also said "Hey, yeah, that sounds GREAT" for reasons I wasn't made privy to ...

ok, that last one is a mainly, not a partly...

Anyway, the gist of it all is this:

  • For this month, take something from Valentine's Day - be it hearts, or sweets, or red, or whatever - and give it a cross-genre spin.
  • Your story should contain horror elements, obviously, but then also anything that fits within the broad range of SFF - that's Sci-fi and Fantasy
  • when you are done with it, post it in the SFF SYW forum.

Let me repeat that: post it over *there*, not here. They will do the same. :)

(If you feel you're not up to that last bit, that's okay too, but I encourage you to do so, and get us beyond the usual suspects who tend to crit our pieces.)

Keep in mind, just like horror is a broad genre with lots of dark alleys, so too does SFF have lots of shiny jet-ways and enchanted forests to stroll through.

Have at it.

*cross-dressing is optional. Leukman, Ben, this means you.

Sheepikins, you told people? It was supposed to be our secret until today. How could you? :e2cry: I'm calling off the genre wedding.

Don't play games with my fragile heart. And don't make eye contact with those big guys with the shotguns. But do put on your best tux for the occasion and try not to get (your own) blood on it :D

I see. So we have Dracula falling in love with Buck Rogers, huh? I'll have to see if I can make give Fenika an offer a story she can't refuse.

Cylon love slave turns on her master(s) - Nah, the new Outer Limits already did that (and maybe Caprica too).

A hopelessly geeky computer scientist figures out a way to embed his personality in the computer of his two-timing lady love. Bloody) Hijinks and hilarity ensue (I think I've seen this one too).

A stowaway on a spaceship falls in love with the loner pilot who discovers he doesn't have enough fuel to make it to his target world with both of them aboard (a variation on "The Cold Equations"?).

Here, there, everywhere.
I confess I don't pay much attention to the monthly prompts, but I'm tempted to give this one a go.

The fact I post in both the Cantina and the Hounds thread is a coincidence.

Oh grandma, what sharp teeth you have. (Said in the sarcastic voice of Susan in Terry Pratchett's Hogfather)

Ha, if you tried to eat my grandmother, that explains why your head is a swollen lump.

(I should at this point point out that my avatar is sacred and of my dearly departed mare. Horse jokes are no problem, but don't mess with the ghost horse specifically)

Now, this is what happens when you mess with horses:

As long as they've had to come back from the dead to do it, sure.

Questions:
If they are posting their stories over *here*, how will we know when to check SYW?

I am assuming they will be updating *their* thread on the prompt with their links, correct? Just like Effie has done with hers, here. So should we just pop into SYW every so often and see if something from the cadets has shown up? Or should we monitor their thread on the prompt as well?

Whew, I think I confused myself in all that :tongue. There, their, here, there.
