Hello!!

How are you guys doing? I present to you my question:

How to clean my laptop screen?

I don't know if I've been doing the wrong thing, but all this time I have cleaned it with baby wipes. :Shrug:I've heard from a few people that baby wipes are good for this, but I can see that they're not because every time I clean the screen with them I can't get that crisp, clean image that windows get when cleaned with Windex. I hope you get my drift. Do you think you can recommend something better? I also read on a website that distilled water is good, but there's a risk of putting too little or too much water in the cloth. Is there a better wipe? Also, how can I clean in between the keys of my keyboard? I've had this computer for a year and I've never done that because I don't know how!!

Any advice is appreciated. I came here because every time I do what you guys advise me to, my problem is solved, and I thank you for that.

Magali.

I use water, and sometimes a microcloth such as those made by Scotch-Brite.

For your keyboard, pick up it and gently shake (over a waste paper basket), then run a Swiffer duster over it (or vacuum).

Someone else might have a better idea. Those work for me.

The microcloth takes a little work, but does a good job. I generally clean with a little water on a soft cloth, let it dry, then use the microcloth.

I imagine baby wipes might have lotion on them that leaves a film. That might be your clarity issue right there.

I use lint-free tissues and water, and that does it well for me.

This is absolutely the way to clean a modern screen.

You can use a cotton swab dampened with isopropyl alcohol to gently clean a really dirty keyboard.

Use a post-it, sticky-side up, to gently clean under the edges of keys. Be careful -- you don't want to lever off a key-cap, or wedge crumbs. Sometimes a can of air is helpful, but be careful.

N.B. I once removed a dime from a faculty member's non-functioning keyboard.

Thanks for confirming it's the best way because next time I go to the store I will buy those products Alleycat mentioned to clean the computer screen.

You guys (and gals), are so behind the times. The proper way to clean any electronic screen is to have your cleaning lady, or guy, strip down and use their boobies...

Its all natural, no harmful chemicals, and leaves a clear sheen you would not believe...

Trust me, it works and has side benefits...

And just to be sure, don't use any kind of commercial cleaner on a screen unless they're specifically made to clean monitors. NO WINDEX.

I know Magali knows this, but someone else might come along later.

Someone who has posted in this thread once spilled half a Coke on his keyboard.

I'm not saying who.

I am lucky because I have never spilled anything on my keyboard and up until yesterday I have had drinks sitting beside my computer but after reading this I am never going to do that again. I repeat, I've been lucky to never spill anything on the keyboard but I am not going to continue to risk it.

In all seriousness, you will see references to putting a keyboard in the dishwasher to clean it.

This might occasionally have worked with keyboards from the 1980s, but it will kill a modern keyboard.

Don't do it.

It probably won't work for other keyboards, but for Apple keyboards, I find a q-tip fits perfectly between the keys. A necessary pain for the dirt-happy white MacBooks.

Also how you clean a keyboard after you spew on it.

But I'm not naming names...

:)

 Ewww...I know you weren't serious, but that is the last thing I would do. I would rather not clean my screen for years on end.

Oh, well...

Doing that is .

I don't have a Mac Book, but I will keep this tip in mind when I get my very first one.

Thank you all for your suggestions. They all helped me so much. Thread is favorited for future reference.
