I've got a sick Mac that needs to go in for a new graphics card. My latest two WIPs are on it. I sent them over to my old Dell via email and-- of course-- I need new software to open the files. They're in Pages.

Any suggestion on something good and reliable?

Thanks muchly for any info.

Can't you export it as a Word file? Then send it to the Dell. Or have you already taken the Mac in for the graphics card?

Find a friendly Mac user who can open the Pages file and save two copies -- one in .rtf and one as an MS Word doc.

You don't need both file formats--but I take a belt-and-suspenders approach to such things.

If this is going to be an ongoing problem for a while, you could also load the Mac/Pages version of Open Office on the Dell. I think they would work. I've never done it, so I'm not sure.

Nope, haven't taken it in yet. Hope to do that tonight. I'll see if I can do the Word file thing. It's a new Mac and I'm new to Macs, so this is all a learning curve for me. Thanks!!!

At this point I'd like to have a bajillion backups. Thanks. :)))

Medi can tell you exactly what you need to do. I'm not a regular Mac user.

I think it's File > Export, or something like that.

If Medi doesn't find this thread again, send her a message.

If you don't have an online storage backup, you can get a free Mozy one with somewhat limited space (but it would be fine for backing up your writing files; it's not big enough to backup photos and video files).

You can also get an e-mail account at someplace like Yahoo and e-mail files to yourself.

In Pages, go to the menu Share->Export, and choose Word (.doc).

If you have a native email client set up, you can even just do Share->Share via Mail->Word.

Thanks! What I did for the short term was convert the files to word docs, attached them to an email, saved those to my desktop and then was able to open the on the Dell.

(I am so not a tech geek.)

kuwi, I'll try yours too. :)

alleycat, medievalist, and kuwi--- thank you so much for your help. :)))

PS kuwi, I don't even know what a "native email client" is. But thanks..
