Found this interesting article by Tom Dupree, former editor at a variety of major publishers. Thought it provided a great insight to an angle of publishing we often don't hear enough about.

Mr. Dupree also shows up at Dean Smith's blog comments here, in case you want even more insights into editing at the professional level. Laura Resnick's comments are worth reading there as well.
