I thought it was a great showcase of his abilities -- the stories were really all over, both in time and voice, but they had a unifying sort of vengeful thematic.

On the other hand, I was curious as to why they were in the order they were in. Any thoughts on that?

I don't know -- I saw it more as guilt then vengeance. The first and last kind of bookend each other, in terms of killing of spouses, one unjustified, one not.

Stephen King is at his best in short form, says the Dark Tower fangirl. :D

I *loved* Full Dark, No Stars, full stop. Gobbled it down in a few hours on Christmas Day, and I expect I'll be re-reading it again soon for some of the nuance that probably got past me the first time.

That said, I think that the book's stories had both guilt and vengeance as a bit of a theme.

I think guilt and vengeance go hand-in-hand. Two sides of the same D20, as it were.

Quite often, yes, and definitely so in these stories. Particularly the first and last, which, btw, stood out to me the most.

I absolutely loved this collection. I think it would be a great primer for people who think they "don't read King's kind of stuff".

Just wonderful.

I liked A GOOD MARRIAGE the best. Thought it balanced the guilt and the vengeance nicely.

It did pretty well! But I preferred 1922. :D

Hadn't heard of this novella. I love the title. Boy, does that title bring back some creepy flashbacks and brings up the hackles! Thanks for posting, MichaelP. I'll have to check this out.
