Okay, so I wrote a story that I subbed to the new Blood Lite 3 antho. It just got rejected because, while funny, the editor decided it wasn't a comedy at heart but more happily grim with comedic moments. The editor really liked the story but it wasn't quite right. So, I'm trying again with something else.

But I really like my little tale and want to try to sub it elsewhere (4,500K size). But who might accept a darkly funny story without taking out either the bloodlust or the humor?

Suggestions? [she asks hopefully...] :e2flowers

Been thinking more about pro mags, but don't know much about the horror mag market. If I have to do it for an antho, I'll try some I already know about. But it would make a good magazine story. Does Realms of Fantasy delve into horror lite?

Try Weird Tales. Ann Vandermeer is always looking for something different.

I'd start with Clarkesworld. They pay 10 cents/word plus are very quick.

What kind of mag are you looking for, Cathy? Shock Totem Magazine is a pro paying horror print mag, and I know from personal experience that they are not one to object to a little humor in their horror. They reopen for regular subs on February 1st. Clarkesworld is an online mag, but they pay impressively above pro rates. They're more sci-fi than horror, but they will accept horror, given that it's the right story. Necrotic Tissue is another one that I've seen humor injected into the horror. These are off the top of my head, though, and I'll readily admit that I love Shock Totem and pimp their mag as much as possible. However, that doesn't mean that they aren't the right home for your tale. They may very well be. I spend a lot of time on their forum and I know that they are one funny bunch of weirdos. They love to laugh and have good senses of humor.

Hopefully you'll find a home for your story. :) If these don't look like what you're looking for, can you give me some ideas of what you are looking for?

Thanks, Eff. I think. Haha.

Yeah, we don't mind humor. However, I should warn anyone looking to sub humor to us, if accepted it'd be for issue #5, which will come out next January. We already have a dark-humored story lined up for issue #4. I mean, this one is over-the-top ridiculous so there's no way we could put another funny story in that issue, you know.

All great suggestions! Thanks everyone! I put it out on sub to one of these recommended and will send it out to others if it's not quite the right fit. :) You guys are the BEST!
