Summer Wine as prom song 1968

For those of you who went to the prom around that time, do you remember dancing to Summer Wine? I want to have my characters dance to it at the prom but what's holding me back is, would it be considered too risqué? I mean, how much attention did teachers and schools pay back then to song lyrics? So yeah, while it would be possible to have it in the story, I'd like to have at least one person tell me that they or someone they know actually danced to that.

Also, just because I'm asking everyone who graduated from high school between 1966-1968, what are the prom songs you remember most?

I don't recall a song Summer Wine; I do remember The Days of Wine and Roses which would be from about that time period.

I was early 60's and I'm pretty sure Pat Boone's Moon River was one of the songs played. Puma

That's a little before my time, but I don't think there would have been a problem playing it (if they played it on Top-Ten AM, it was generally allowed at a school dance), but I doubt whether it was one of the big prom songs at the time. It would be fine to use it in a story as a prom song however.

Looking up the top songs of 1968, if you want something slow, or reasonably slow, then maybe This Guy's in Love With You by Herb Albert, The Look of Love by Sergio Mendes, La-La Means I Love You by the Delfonics, Love is Blue by Paul Mauriat, Those Were the Days by Mary Hopkins, Midnight Confessions by Grass Roots.

If you want something faster, then almost anything by The Who, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Steppenwolf, The Doors, or any of the big names at the time would do. You could look up the top songs of 1967 and 1968 (through May).

I was in elementary school about that time. At every school dance the girls would play Hollies songs, like Bus Stop, along with the Beatles and the other big name groups.

Puma, thanks so much. Moon River was on my list all along. The Days of Wine and Roses rings a vague bell. Even after listening to it, I can't place it.

Holy ****, Alleycat, you just opened up a whole can of worms there with The Look of Love and Those Were the Days.

I think that"This guy's in love with you" by Herb Alpert is one to consider. It was a hit in 1968. I don't remember Summer Wine and I graduated from HS that year.
