I run XP at home and have a brand-new Mac laptop running both Mac and XP to use at work.

I bought several audiobooks today and want to transfer them from my home ITunes to the laptop. A flash drive seemed the easiest way to do this. However, when I export the file to the flash drive, it shows up as a text file, when it should be an MP4. The "Save As" choices don't include MP3 or MP4.

Should I just wait until I've saved the files to CD and transfer them that way?

You should be able to dig around in the iTunes library folder and find the original MP3 files for those audiobooks, then just drag'n'drop them onto the flash drive.

I'm on Mac only, so I have no "Save As" option, but I suspect that's just for saving the track info, not the track itself. Look for a folder called "iTunes Music" (it's under Music/iTunes on the Mac, don't know about Windows) and poke around in there!

HTH!

It sounds like you're trying to save it as an m3u (like a playlist). You don't want save it, you just want to copy it. It's been a while since I've used iTunes on Windows, but you should be able to just drag the file straight from iTunes onto the flash drive if it's anything like on a Mac. Otherwise, right click the file and choose "Show in Windows Explorer" and just copy the files onto the flash drive. The "Save as" mechanism doesn't do what you think it does.

Look in your My Music folder. It should be in your My Documents folder in XP. Inside the folder is the iTunes music library. It'll look different depending on which version of Itunes you're running. Look for a media folder. The audio books will be in a folder of their own Copy that folder on to your flash drive. Place it in the media folder on your laptop.

Make sure that the version of iTunes you are using is the same for both home and work otherwise it may not play the books files.

Sorry for the delay in replying and thank you all for your help. I'll play with this on my days off. I'm quite enjoying my new Mac.
