I have started writing the story. I have actually written almost half of it (first draft). The story line is -

A young 35 year old gets married to a wealthy lady and comes to Kanti-Valley which is famous as the playground of the rich. The local pollice have a policy of doing background checks on all new comers. They find that this is his fourth marriage. The earlier three marriages were to very very rich women who died accidently within months of the marriage leaving the young man all their wealth. In each of the cases, the young man has a foolproof alibi.

A friendly cop accosts the young man and warns him against trying to kill his rich fourth wife. Suddenly, the fourth wife dies of a bizarre accident. At the time of death, the young man was in police custody for drunken driving.

Was it really an accident? Can the Police pin him down? Or will he again escape the law? How does he do it?

What genre are you writing in? Is this crime/suspense/thriller/mystery? Is it based on how the real world works?

Or is it fantasy? I mean no disrespect, but I am having a hard time getting a 'read' on what you're aiming for.

Its fiction - but not fantasy fiction. Its a mystery. There are no magical elements.

@Shringarey:

So they do background checks on all the newcomers? Is that generally legal? Or is it written up in some kind of agreement, such as: Okay, you can visit our city/resort but only if you agree to, and are aware that we check up on all the guests/visitors.

Because otherwise, I would have a hard time believing you can legally check on people this way, unless, of course, you had a good reason to do so.

jakson,

I'm not so sure. But a pal of mine said that they do some sort of informal check in some localities. I'm not so sure that it is legal or not.
