I started writing a few erotic shorts a couple of weeks back. Pretty soon, had a kind of theme, husbands and wives, and a whole register full of ideas. I picked the ones that I liked and ended up writing a dozen shorts all together, each averaging 1500 words. At some point I thought I should self publish the collection just for fun. I came up with a cover and everything.

Then I had a thought. I was going to let my wife read and critique, but then I thought maybe I would publish it under a pseudonym and tell he I found a collection she might enjoy. Not only would I get a better feel for what she really thought, but it will be fun to reveal I wrote it later on.

Anyway, I hope she enjoys. I posted one of the shorts on another site and got pretty good feedback. In any case, now I'm published.

I think it's a cute idea, and gives you a chance to play a little game with the dedication page.

I tried an experiment with my last wip. When all the rewrites and editing were done, I put it up on lulu.com and printed a single copy. For about $8, I had an actual book for final editing.

I see different errors when a novel ms is formatted into a 210-page book, with book font, 6x9 format, perfect bound, properly-constructed chapter breaks, title page, etc. The cost is not much greater than the cost of paper and toner to print it on the printer at home.

In my 'perfect' ms, I found another 50 or so simple errors, plus three structural issues that demanded rewrites. In fact, the entire final scene was replaced to change the ending and add a little twist.

I only did one real edit. Of course, I thought it was perfect. My wife has read the first four out of 12 shorts. He first comments were positive, but then said all the typos were bugging her. One particular short was about a fetish we enjoy and had some funny parts, which she found really funny (good sign). She wanted me to read it. I did, took my time and found dozens of errors. Really?

It's funny how it's so hard to edit your own work. When I read that story, I really read it like it was my first time. Only then did I catch the errors. Many were as simple as double spaces between words, but those mess with the full justification when they are at the end of a line of text. She is a better editor than me and edits my work. Always better to get a second set of eyes.

I like to take a small break after finishing the book and editing. I still suck at. *lol*

Well, that is awesome. What a neat idea. I may try that sometime in the future. :)

It's hard to see your own mistakes after writing something, since your mind inserts the correct 'content' as you read. Yeah. I put stuff away for a couple of months and go back over it. They show up much better then.

More eyes on something is a must!

Update: She doesn't feel like reading erotica right now. I can't exactly push her to do it, that would be weird. I want her to read at least one more of the shorts. It is right up her ally, women discovering their bisexuality.

Ah. Well, yes it would seem a little odd if you got too insistent.

Patience. :)

Hi there DB. That sounds very fun, I would love to hold a book of mine in my hands. For only $8? Wow.

Can you do that with Lulu without actually posting it? I would not want to give up first rights over it by having it posted, but it would be fun.
