My question is in the title really. I see other writer websites that are linked and I think it's better for your books promotion. I have no idea where to start. Help!

Hi, Katy, I'm a web developer, so I'll try to help.

However, you need to be more specific. Where do you want to link from? What do you want to display? A simple link in your AW signature or on a forum post to your Twitter/Facebook account? Or do you want to embed your Twitter feed/Facebook entries in another web page?

If it's just a link you want, you need to type the right address (substituting your own user name!) and it will automatically be linked:

http://twitter.com/annelyle

or

http://www.facebook.com/AnneLyle.writer

Or you can type something like "Follow me!", select that with your mouse, click on the hyperlink icon in the editing box's toolbar (a globe and chain) and type or paste the correct address into the pop-up box.

Oh thank you so much I've been wanting to sort this out for months.

I see most good websites with a twitter icon and a facebook icon that the user can just click on. Yes it would be to get them to follow me on twitter and to link to ... either my personal face book page or my facebook books page - unless both is a possible option.

It's the icons, how do you get the icons and make them 'clickable'. Cut and paste the icons?

Thank you again,

Katy Sara

Hi Katy

There are a couple of ways to do this. If you are running your website on WordPress or something similar, there may be plugins you can use to automatically include FB and Twitter icons in your blog. If not, you will have to do it manually...

For Facebook, you can create a "badge" - just got to http://www.facebook.com/badges/ and follow the instructions.

For Twitter, here's an article with links to lots of different options, from simple badges to widgets that display your latest tweets: http://mashable.com/2009/03/30/twitter-badges/

Have fun!

EDIT - NeverEatZombiePork beat me to it! Still, now you have lots of choices :)

Also do a search for Twitter API, that will get to you to some Twitter badges by Twitter.

If you want the dirty though (And this will help with future links.

< a href="http://twitter.com/MichelleJNorton">< img scr="twit.jpg" /></a>

That would link the image twit.jpg on your web server to my page if you removed the spaces between < and a and < and img. You can put any link you want between the quotes in the a tag and the path of any image in the quotes of the image tag.

As for getting the images, besides plugins there are plenty of public domain icons for twitter and facebook. Do a search for twitter and facebook icons or images on google. Go to the artists page to make sure they are free for use though.
