Where to send long stories?

Any ideas on places that publish long literary stories? I have one that is 12,000 words. Have looked on Duotrope, but when you're not sure what/who you're looking for, it's hard to find the answer (if that makes sense).

Any suggestions would be great.

PS, I am interested in print journals, not online journals.

Where you send your story doesn't depend on just word count. What is it about? What genre is it?

What is the genre?

I have had 'long stories' published. (There are diff. designations for them, depending on length. You can find this information elsewhere in this part of AW.) But I've sold several very long ones in the mystery genre.

You can enter a word amount when searching on duotrope as an alternative to choosing a length. I've found that's pretty effective.

You might try picking up a copy of Best American Literary Stories, an annual anthology that usually features several longer stories, along with the pub they appeared in, usually all print publications. You might do better with Writers' Market for what you're looking for than Duotrope, as I've noticed the latter doesn't list a lot of the college print literary journals.
