In what period of life is an unborn child?

What is a pregnancy period for the mother is the intrauterine life period for an unborn child.

I'm asking for a more simple word for the intrauterine life period.

The child is in utero or prenatal.

(And I'd suggest adding 'up' in there for rhythm and clarity, but it's just a thought.)

You could also use the term fetus.

Newborns can use stored iron, which they got before birth from their mothers, so they don't need additional iron from food.

I agree with "built up" and "because" in my previous sentence, though.
