First off, I don't think the Crow is popular enough to remake. SUre, it's a great film that achieved decent cult status, but it's not like it broke box office records or anything. At best, I think the film did 'okay' by box office standards. But nothing on the scale that says, "Hey lets do a remake"

And I think this movie would break my 'remake rule'. Namely, that a remake has to be better than the original and I just don't see it here.

Secondly, Mark Wahlberg. Seriously???? WTF?

talk about a random pick. Whoever is in charge of casting should be fired for even thinking of Wahlberg.

The Crow is all about goth. And Mark may be many things (okay few things) but he is definitely not goth.

Personally, I think it's a bit of a dishonor to the memory of Brandon Lee since that was his last film. It should stay his film.

Also, why can't we get something new and fresh from Hollywood. They should start calling themselves Recyclewood.

All of the above comments plus extra dismay. That movie should rest in peace with Brandon Lee, who was killed while they were filming it. I'm certainly not going to go watch a remake. Argh. Soon enough they'll be remaking The Dark Knight so maybe we'd better get used to it I guess. :rant:

It was bad enough they made sequels to this movie. This is Brandon's movie, not just because he died on set. He owned that role. If they remake it, which I think is a horrible idea, they better come up with a helluva better choice than Marky-Mark. Even then, I wouldn't see it. But at least have more respect.

I don't think it's a good idea to remake the Crow, either, but not for the reason you stated.

Some of the best and most successful remakes have been of films that were lower budget, lesser known, or not released in the United States yet. Cape Fear, and The Ring, to name a few.

Titanic, which DID break box office records, would probably not do very well if it were remade because so many people already saw it and still remember it.

I'm afraid I don't understand. If you think the movie is awful, why would it bother you if it were remade? Bad movies are the ones that need to be remade, not good ones.

I think she was saying that Brandon Lee's death was awful, rather than that the movie was. I could be wrong about that, though.

I read somewhere that Michael Caine once said that only bad films should be remade, in hopes of getting it right the second time around. Given that, why he chose to remake Sleuth instead of, say, Blame It on Rio remains a mystery.

I don't know that I'd agree that Cape Fear meets your criteria exactly. It was a pretty successful movie in 1962. Gregory Peck was one of the biggest movie stars in the world, and coming off a huge hit in The Guns of Navarone. Mitchum was in a bit of a slack spell, but he was still one of the major stars of the day. And I recall having seen it several times on TV in the years prior to the remake, so it wasn't completely forgotten. Still, the remake is probably a slightly better film, and therefore worth the effort to remake. If you can do it better after so long a time, why not? If you can't though...

Sorry I wasn't clear. The movie was only so-so, which makes the tragedy of Brandon Lee's death all the more awful. My immediate reaction was let it alone. I'm afraid I wasn't very coherent.
