I'm looking around for places to send erotica for review, and thought to check in here to leech of your collective knowledge and experience.

  • Where are the best websites/blogs/etc to submit for review? (By best I mean not easiest but quickest/most active/highest traffic.)
  • Which ones take "odd submissions" - shorts, e-pub, etc?
  • Which ones allow adult content links and excerpts?
  • Which ones do you read/trust and use in making purchases?
  • Et cetera.

I thought this might be a useful thread to keep updated.

I didn't find anything else that quite fit the bill. If I just missed it, I apologize.

I've been looking for such a site for years. I wish I read enough erotica for me to be able to get away with starting a site like it.

(Been thinking that myself.)

ETA: You know, I bet a group of 10 or so erotica writers banding together would have enough collective ability to maintain such a blog. Just putting that out there.

The biggest problem with review sites is that doing reviews is WORK, and it's not nearly as much fun as writing. Either the site needs to be monetized somehow to compensate the reviewers, or it needs to use volunteers, who will drift away as they grow tired of all the thankless work.

And yet there are plenty of review sites, because plenty of people are reading the books anyway--and writing the review itself is not necessarily that arduous.

The original question, I thought, was 'where are the review sites?' I've wondered myself. I knew only of Whipped Cream (romance centered) and Erotica Revealed (eclectic).

(Not to mention Amazon and other sales site reviews.)

I'm done a few reviews (not in erotica) and for me, it gets old pretty fast. Erotica Revealed is volunteers, all experienced authors with their own writing schedules. The reviews are incisive and detailed. I don't know how they keep it up month after month.

A good review is a lot of work. In any periodical with a focus on culture, book reviews are always the most expensive to publish, ie money per word. I think it's a quality thing. Crappy reviews are easy to do.

There are a lot of all genre review sites that may well take erotica, I know both of mine have and do. And I assume that we are talking about (web)sites here, not professional print publications--but i included some of both below. To work out which are the best I would suggest looking at Google and Alexus rank and quality of the reviews. Not knowing the subgenre this is just a mixture.

If you think any of them are crappy, obvious don't submit there. But be aware, some rather rough looking reader-to-reader sites have a very good following.

banding together

Anne,

Read your idea of 10 or so erotica writers banding together for a blog site. Are you serious?

Although mine is not a review site, I'd like to invite you to check out my website (see signature). We DO take short story erotica, and we will certainly let you link to your blog, website, and books for sale.

Plans for our site (hopefully soon, as soon as I figure out how to do it!) include a blog, which I hope to expand to include toy reviews, book reviews, and information on writing erotica.

Will someone please tell me how to set up a blog?! Why does it seem harder than setting up a website!?

I think it is easier than a website, esp if you start out with blogspot. (I find blogspot the easiest, personally.) Just google it, and follow the steps. You can send invites to people to be contributors, as well.

Yes, you're absolutely right, I did end up going with blogger (that's the same as blogspot, right?) and it was VERY easy. Not as professional as wordpress, I'm sure, but it's great for what I needed and what I had time to learn. I just wanted to be up and running...and now I am! So please check it out (see signature).

Since my blog is geared toward writers and wanna be writers of erotica, if anyone wants to contribute about what it's like to be an erotica writer, or try to be one, or polish, or submit, or anything, really, including promoting your book...my door is WIDE open for contributors, just email me!

Great Erotic Review Site

I love to read erotica and have found a site that seems to give quality reviews for erotic e-books in every genre. Unlike most websites that only give one reviewer's perspective this website offers five reviewers points of view on the same e-book. This to me is great because with the cost of an e-book rising and the no return policy on e-books when I am looking for something to read on my mobi devices I now look to them before deciding.

The website's name is Deviant Divas Erotic Book Review. I found the site very clean in comparison to other review sites and it downloads fast even on my phone.

Opportunity for Erotica Authors

Renly,

There is such a group. It's called Everything Erotic and they have a fantastic blog.

Check them out at www.everythingerotic.blogspot.com

@Erotic Writer - Thanks for the plug! Very kind of you to mention our blog. We're having a blast with it and reaching a lot of readers.

@Anne, or any other erotica writers, if you'd like to be a sponsor and get your work in front of our readers, please check out this link for guidelines:

http://everythingerotic.blogspot.com/p/sponsorship.html

We've had guest bloggers on recently who've reported dramatic changes in their Amazon rankings. I'd be happy to share the before and after figures to anyone interested.

@Canadian Erotic Reader - thanks for the link to Deviant Divas. I agree, the ebook prices are getting out of control and I really like the idea of five opinions on one book.

Cheers,
C.J.
