Hello,

When writing out on Open Office or MS Works, I'm getting these lines that run the entire length across the page. It looks like underlining for internal monologue, but goes across the page.

It happens whenever I hit the enter or return key just at certain points in the text.

How do I disable it? Get rid of it? It will print out on hard copy.

Thanks,

DKM

I'm not sure I know what you're talking about, but I can guess. I know on MS Word's formatting toolbar there is a tool for drawing a line. Have you checked to see if that's been activated somehow?

Can you do a screen capture and post the image online, then link to it here so we can see it? It sounds to me as if you might be seeing page breaks, depending on which View option you've chosen, but they don't print.

Since Open Office apparently works like Word, I will give you the solutions I try in Word:

- Mysterious lines are sometimes style related. Many styles can be set to switch to a different style when you create a new paragraph, and that new paragraph may have a line as part of its formatting. Have a look at the styles on the various paragraphs and correct accordingly.

- Simpler solution - grab the whole bunch of text, cut it and paste it back in Unformatted. This will kill off mysterious stylings, and you can then apply only what styles you want.

- Sometimes 'someone' has just drawn a line across the page. You may have to click on the line and then hit delete.

Sorry everyone for not getting back to you sooner. I don't have a good internet connection & must depend on other sources. Obviously, I'm not a tech person & will probably have to ask follow up questions.

Anyways, here's a sample of what I'm talking about.
----------------------------------------------------------
Edit comments: When posting the cut and paste - the lines showed up. However, as soon as I hit the "Post Quick Reply" box - the lines disappeared. Image lines all the way across under the 1st, 3rd and last "sentences."

I feel so dumb.

As soon as the line happens, do a Ctrl+Z (undo). It should revert to what you actually typed. Better yet, go into settings and tell it to stop automatically changing any set of three dashes, underscores, asterisks, or whatever into a "hard line" automatically when you hit Enter after typing them. Or lose the habit and use a single hashmark between scenes.

Lines can get drawn by autostyle. e.g. you put several asterisks or hyphens and press retun, it makes a line. These lines are hard to erase. I do what kurzon said.
