Two threads in other subforums have kind of clicked in my head to create a new monster. One was in Romance, where the OP was asking for audiobook recommendations, the other was an interview on CNN (link posted in E-pub) with Stephen King talking about digital publishing.
A few weeks ago, someone pinged me asking how my pen name was pronounced because they were making the audio version.
First of all, I didn't know my novella was going to HAVE an audio version. Second of all, I thought I was getting pranked, because my novella is 28% explicit sex. Who the heck would want to buy an audio copy of erotica? Where would you listen to it? I listen to audio books in the car with my toddler or over the living room stereo while I cook dinner. There is not one single page from any of my four completed manuscripts that I would play in either environment. I could see how it might be handy to have a... no-hands version... for very specific circumstances on my iPod, of course, I'm not an idiot. But I'm struggling to imagine that being a big sales item.
In the CNN piece, they talked to a woman who was part of the early days of audio books, and she said, paraphrased, that back then, people asked her who the heck would want to listen to a book.
So... okay, now I have to ask the newbie question. Does anyone here have one of their erotic books on sale in audio form, and... does it sell well? Do any of you buy erotic books in audio form? Do you feel sorry for the poor actress who has to read these things? Are you now imagining a short story where a voice actress and a recording engineer get so hot and bothered by recording erotica that they end up doing it on top of a piece of spiky foam acoustic material?
