Okay so I was looking in SYW and I saw that you have to be 21 to see the erotica thread in SYW. Now my question is, if you wanted to, and were planning an erotic novel, where would you post it, when you wanted to post it?

Depends on what kind of novel it is. There are specialized publishers out there for, say, erotic romances. You have Samhain and Carnal Passions.
Sorry I meant on this site, as in AW. I think I would love to be published some day, but I am a very beginner newbie and need to work on my writing skills before I think of being published.
In that case, generally the Erotica SYW thread, the first chapter or two. Beyond that, it can be hard for critiquers to give good comments unless they've kept up. Posing the first couple of chapters, though, can generally give you a good idea of the kinds of things to fix in the rest of the novel. If you're interested in someone reading the whole novel and offering their critique, there's the Beta Readers thread where you can look for a beta reader; alternatively, maybe someone who reads the first few chapters in SYW may be interested in reading the rest.

Well I'm 18 so by most standards I should be considered old enough, and I've been reading erotica since I was 14 and reading milder sex scenes since I was 12. So it's not like I would be offended by the sex scenes in the erotica section. But I'm probably getting ahead of myself. I've only just barely begun to plan this story, and it could take me years to write it. I was just honestly curious about it. I mean there have probably been other younger authors like me who want to get critics on their erotica work, but were not considered old enough to go to that section. Also I would like to be able to read more of the genre so that I can be better able to write it myself. But I could probably do that online.

I know what you mean. It's a shame such so many shout "think of the children" when the "children" they're talking about can be quite mature. For this site, at least, it's a "worst case scenario" for legal reasons, since the greatest common denominator for most places around the world is 21. You can try PM-ing EL, veinglory, or MacAllister just to find out if there's the possibility. I'm not sure.
Either way, you can always follow the posts in this section. And should anyone make a post that catches your interest, there's always PM if you're interested in sharing work with other members in private, which happens quite a lot.

The 21 age limit for Erotica SYW is a legal requirement, as is explained elsewhere. That is to say, legal action could be taken against the board owner if anyone under 21 is allowed access. Can't risk that, so the age requirement is enforced. It's nothing to do with your maturity, don't take it as an insult.

Thanks I can understand the rule, I was surprised it was 21 instead of 18 but I guess I shall bear with it for another 3 years. *sigh* The good news is that I will have 3 extra years to plan and write the story, so it should be awesome by then.

You could try Literotica. Their age requirement is 18, and they have a subforum where you can find a volunteer to edit your story. The site as a whole has no focus on writing for publication though, the writers there are mostly the type who give away their stuff free online, so they're doing it for fun and not that worried about quality.

AW is not just in one state of one country--so it has to cover a range of juristictions. So you would need to either contact a beta-reader and email the work, or use a site with a lower age limit.
thanks guys. I think I'll go with the suggestion of another site for now. I have two or three websites that I regularly frequent so I'll try those, and I'll probably still be able to post some of the less explicit stuff on here for review in the other forums.
Bookbuyer, remember, too, that learning to write as well as you possibly can is a skill you can build in any genre. There's an enormous amount to master which applies equally to erotica, westerns, or fantasy. I urge you to continue to frequent this site as much or more than the others, mainly because as writing sites go, this is it, and it's also best as far as erotica writing sites go.

Ty. It's good advice. I've only been writing seriously for about the past 6 months and my writing has improved a lot. (it had no place to go but up. lol) I really like this website because the people are awesome and you get really fast responses which are also very detailed, which is so hard to find on other sites. As you mentioned none of the other sites I go on have very good romance/erotica sections, in fact most of them don't even have specific sections, just general ones. So I definitely won't be giving this website up, but I'll just try that specific piece on other sites, and a bit on this one when I have a bit more.
I don't know about the Literotica community itself since I'm not a part of it, but personally, I write for fun and quality is very important to me.
I think you just have to find the right beta who's going to give you the sort of feedback you need. I've gotten some great betaing from people who write erotica but not professionally.
You could also check out the forum on the Romance Divas website. They're devoted to romance and erotica writing and the age requirement for their erotica section is 18, as I recall. Unlike Literotica, they are focused on writing for publication.
