I'm happy to read most eras, although I prefer WW1/WW2.

I don't care much for regency-era but other than that, I'll try anything once.

Historical fantasy not set on Earth is my favorite, but as far as more-or-less real historical periods I like regency, Scottish clans, medieval knights, and most stone age or tribal settings. Settings that have guns, steam, electricity, etc. are a bit too modern to provide the kind of escapism I want.

I love me some Regency most of all. I think it's an interesting era. It's modern enough that the everyday life isn't too hard to relate to, but it's different enough to be intriguing and make me wonder how the heck did people manage to live then! No railways, no modern style policing, no sewers! How did they manage to get anywhere? How did they not get murdered in their beds? All intriguing stuff.

I enjoyed Regency only if it's not a total play-on-manners story. Those get boring real fast. I've enjoyed Medieval, Victorian and Tutor Romances. With or without paranormal stuff. Even occasionally read a Western, but those aren't as interesting to me. I'm not really interested in US history, I'm afraid.

Ooh, good question. I like Scots, Georgian, Regency, Victorian, but nothing older than Edwardian. I also love 'ancient' history periods, though those are rarer to find in romance. I used to love (once upon a time) medieval romances, but lately they've been more anachronistic than correct - i e the sword-swinging lady of the manor - and that just drives me batty.

I love American West stories--not necessarily the gunslinger stories. I'm thinking my next one involves gold mining in the West.

I'm a huge fan of the Art Noveau thru Art Deco age (roughly 1900-1940), especially the 20's and the WWI era. Neither seems to get much written about it; WWI comes off particularly poorly in writing when compared to its hilarious sequel WWII.

Good question. I love Georgian, Regency, Victorian, & Edwardian. Sometimes I'm in the mood for westerns. I've tried Medievals, but haven't found any that push the right buttons for me.

Love Georgian & Regency. Occasionally Victorian & Edwardian. First started with medieval and still love a good one (they don't have to be accurate). Wish there were more "ancient" too.

I like reading in all eras, but they have to be truly historical. Um...yeah I've read so many books the past couple of years that, other than a few references, could have been written in any era. I like to get caught up in the love story and the era when reading historicals.

I will follow a good writer anywhere.
Ummm .... anywhen.

When I'm looking for new writers I go down the row and flip open each book in turn to see how the prose sounds.
If I can read a page or two and the prose doesn't annoy me, I'll generally buy it. I don't really check to see what historical setting I've got.

That said,
I need good research in my historicals and logical worldbuilding in my UF.

If the lady of the manor is in her garden with her bible open on her lap, teaching the servant girls how to read from it;
If the kickass heroine climbs into her steam-powered car, turns a switch, and zips right off without any time to build up a head of steam . . .
I am probably going to lol and put the book back for somebody else to enjoy.

I like all different eras, but nothing beyond 1900.

I want something that isn't wallpaper-historical, but I don't want my eyes to glaze over because of a thinly-veiled history lesson with a love story kinda tacked on. I love history, but I don't read history texts for fun (at least, not usually. :D)

I'm almost finished writing a novella set in the victorian era. I've had much fun writing it :)

I love the medieval period but haven't found a lot of it. Also like Georgian and Regency (especially Jo Beverly) in that order, but Victorian is fun too. I tend to stop at 1900 as getting too modern.

I would love some good recs on historical romance novels. I have read a few. Read one of Job's. Have read a victorian, and several in Russia during the czar's.

The House of Lanyon and The house of Allerbrook by Valerie Anand. Both are sale priced on Amazon.

I tend to like serious stories. Light and fluffy--nothing wrong with those and many are very well written--aren't usually my cup of tea. Here are some of my favorites off the top of my head.

Midnight Honor by Marsha Canham~ Scottish mid 1700's
Night in Eden by Candice Procter~ Australia early 1800's
Beyond Sunrise by Candice Procter~ Pacific Islands late 1800's
Heart of the West by Penelope Williamson ~Montana late 1800's
The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons~ Russia WWII
Olivia and Jai by Rebecca Ryman~ India 1800's
Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas~ Victorian England
The Maiden and the Unicornby Isolde Martyn~ Medieval England

If anyone has similar tastes, give me some recs!

Awesome recs, thanks!! Anyone know any good wild west-themed romances? I have been reading some westerns lately and think they would be interesting.

What about ancient egypt? Are there such a thing as romances set in that place and era?

I'll read any era, but I want well-researched books that make me believe in the story. I've pretty much gone off Regencys because I've read too many wallpaper-y ones. I don't mind the era in itself but I currently need no more ruined virgins and rake-ish dukes.

I would really like some more unusual settings. I tend to go for those if I can find them.

17th century, Renaissance set outside of England, non-European history? Anything with non-noble characters?

I'd at least try it.

I, too, would love to see more ancient world romances. I wish I'd get plot bunny or two in such a setting . . .

Constance O' Banyon has a series of romances about some (probably fictional) relatives of Cleopatra. I was expecting them to be silly fluff, but they're actually not bad.

My favorite eras are Regency, Georgian, and medieval--preferably with a good helping of historical accuracy and some swashbuckling action thrown in. Those are not always mutually exclusive. The Outlander series, for example, though it's arguable whether that's really genre romance or not.
