Hi, I'm new to this Forum. I'm considering attending the Screenwriting Expo 4 in L.A. in November, and I just wanted to know if anyone had attended in the past and had any insight as to whether the Expo was worthwhile. Thank you.

I haven't done it myself, but I will be in LA by November, and I will be attending. Friends of mine who have attended thought it was worthwhile. You get to pitch to industry insiders and network with people, and maybe get more insights about the industry.

well worth the 75 bucks

the Expo is a whole lotta bang for the buck. tons of mini seminars to choose from. big industry people speaking...in large forums thou so don't expect to meet them unless your very bold ;) a giant marketplace just for screenwriters and industry folks to get the claws in you pocketbook. in addition to the pitching (and i suggest if you pitch that you take a pitch forum first but also that you just use it as a learning experience and don't expect a sale) they have a screenwriting contest - it's a handwritten short contest that takes place over the entire weekend (if you make it past the first round).

you'll emerge from the weekend all fired up and ready to improve your writing.

I agree.

I went a few years ago (maybe this year too) and found it fun and informative. If you plan to pitch, really get it down and tight you have like a few minutes to sell your idea. Keep it enthusiastic, positive and make it sound like this is the one they should read. It is a cattle call but good practice.

The workshops are great too from what I remember.

Thank you, Everyone. The brochure they sent sounded great, and you've all confirmed that. This year, they're also selling Pitch Seminars on DVD in advance, so I thought I'd order a few of those in advance if I decide to attend (which is looking more and more likely) so I could hone my pitches before getting out there.
