Edit: If you figure out what this book is, the person is offering a prize of sending you two books of your choice as a reward. I know (!)
see post 3 for details - I think the legends at AW will figure it out :D

I personally don't really read the vampire stuff... ;)

You should be ashamed of yourself. What a perfectly useless waste of bandwidth!

hahaha. I actually took it down as she is now offering rewards (by way of two new books of your choice to the first person who gives her the correct title) and then I felt bad as I would be getting prizes of an AWers sleuthing - assuming someone can figure it out...

I was posting it originally as I know you guys always come through on the most obscurest and vaguest of details. So, what do you think? Do you have a clue what this book could be based on the info below?

But, I've re-posted the info: this bloggers pretty desperate and offering rewards and whoever figures it out can go and tell her :)

Her post:

WHAT I *THINK* I KNOW:

★ ... there's a sexy vampire! (yeah, I've already got your attention :D)

★ ... he's a count, living in a castle - in Romania! (yup, you want to know more ...)

★ ... he is lonely - and desperately wants a baby - but has given up on love! (awww - how sweet! ... admit it, you'd totally loan this desperate-for-a-baby vampire your ovaries! ... and womb ... and you'd give birth for him ... err, maybe ... ?! ... *ouchies* ... okay, okay, he'll make it worth your while!! ... he's paying, alright?!)

★ ... he puts out an ad - and it's answered by a girl who's, well, desperate (gee, do you think I might need a Thesaurus, or something?! :p) ... that's right - her life has pretty much gone to hell in a handbasket! (*snicker* I totally don't get this particular saying, but it always gets a *giggle* out of me :) ... luckily, Google and Wikipedia are everyone's best friends ... CLICK ME!!!) .... anyhoo, since she has absolutely no reason left to live, she responds to his ad ... I mean, she's got nothing to lose ... right??

★ ... there's a contract ... she'll sleep with him until a baby is conceived, then spend 9 months luxuriating in - err - pregnant bliss (?) in his castle, have the baby, then take her payment and leave ... she won't have any claims over the baby ... there won't be any strings ... nothing ... this is simply a quick and dirty solution to Sexy Count Vampire's heir-less-ness. Simple, right?! HA! As if anything is ever that easy ;)

★ ... turns out the castle is haunted ... by ALL his former wives ... and she's alone with them  There may be 13, but this could merely be a figment of my imagination ;)

★ ... and here's the worst part - she totally falls smack on her face for Sexy Count Vampire - who, of course, is not actually the rampaging monster of legend, but a lonely man who wants nothing more than a baby of his own. *dreamy sigh*

★ ... oh yeah, I've just remembered that he's cursed ... and it has something to do with why there are so many dead wives and no baby ... and why he wants the whole *thing* to be - well - as impersonal as conceiving a child and taking care of the pregnant woman can ever possibly be :p

★ ... and, of course, there's a villain! You totally didn't see that coming, did you? :p He's possibly to blame for the curse, wanting Sexy Count Vampire's line to die out for reasons of VenGeaNcE ... maybe. Okay, I don't know ... he might have other reasons ... vengeance just makes everything exciting, though, doesn't it?! *grin*

WHAT I'M MOST LIKELY WRONG ABOUT ... *shrug* (",):

★ ... the heroine's name is Elle / Ellie ... something like that ... ?!

★ ... the front cover is *sHocKinG* pink and quite chick-lit in appearance ... maybe  ... ?! I've read the novel about - err - five or so times ... ?! ... and my brain seems to be attributing this to an incredibly bright cover that never failed to snag my attention when lurking on the library shelves. I do, however, also seem to remember finding the book one last time, years later ... and being surprised that its cover was NOT in fact bright pink, uncertain why I had always thought that it WAS ... yeah - *shrugs helplessly* - the mind of The Bella works in totally NOT helpful mysterious ways ;)

SO ... what's it called??! Tell me! Tell me! TELL ME!!! :D

Ah, me again... so help the chicka out if you know what she's thinking of. also, she says she read it about ten years ago, but it could have been published before then (well, obviously...)

and a link to her blog where you can leave suggestions and the first correct answer gets two books of their choice

Hey, Jess... was it The Darkangel by Meredith Ann Pierce? Plot here. It sounds sooo similar. There's a curse, a hot vampire, a castle, a desperate heroine (Aeriel), and thirteen dead wives hanging around, but I don't think there were any babies or contracts other than the fact the MC's the vampire's slave. And the cover's definitely not pink.

If not, I'm stumped, too. Oh, well. I posted it on her blog anyway. :)

YES! That's it.

It had more than one cover. And there was more than one book in the series. Which is where the stuff about babies comes from, if I recall correctly.

It's not Darkangel. I have all three of the books in the series and it's actually sci-fi set the moon which was terraformed ages ago.

CheG's right, it's not The Darkangel trilogy. Read all three as a teen and there's no baby anywhere, and definitely no contract. His previous wives do hang around the castle. Are you mixing up plot details?

The blogger responded to my post, actually, and confirmed The Darkangel wasn't the book she remembered. And I quote:

OMG you got me so excited there! I went and read up about the Darkangel and, apart from the contract to have the baby, the plot is incredibly similar ... wow ... it's actually got me wondering whether they aren't both based on the same fairy tale / folk story, or something! Thanks for your input, though ... this is the first book suggested that's even remotely similar to the description I've given ... I feel like we're getting somewhere :)
Bold mine. I swear I read this book when I was in high school, too--but after a while, some plots and characters tend to blend together after rattling around in my brainpan, especially if they have similar premises. :)

Err? Could've sworn this was a reference to that book. There is a part in I believe the last book where it discusses how the vampire (vampyre, vampyr, whatever the heck way it is spelled in that book) becomes what he is.
