Can anyone tell me what I've done...

Using just the basic copy and paste, I borrowed a copy of Susie's avatar for my signature. Usually when I change a signature, that signature disapears and is replaced with the new one on all past and present posts.

With this one, it didn't. The pic is only visable in the new posts I make, leaving the old ones before the change, blank.

I'm not too sure what I'm doing wrong, and I was wondering if anybody else did?

Thank you for any help :)

I'm trying to view the .gif file referenced in your sigline, but it's not displaying.

What you maybe need to do is save the image onto your PC, upload it to PhotoBucket or similar picture storage site, then reference the URL from there.

Edit: hah! Wait! You had a few extra numbers at the beginning, edit the sigline and take out 1.2.3.9/bmi/

Where is the image you want ? Are you uploading it? Are you linking to it on a site like PhotoBucket?

I can see the image in my signature now. It's a young girl with wings. Does this mean you can't see it, dapterson & Medievalist? You're just seeing a gif file...? :scared:

I'm gonna back into my signature and see if there's a gif file showing anywhere and try and delete those numbers. Failing that, I'll copy onto computer...

Eesh...

Medieval: I've tried saving to my computer but when I upload, I get a message saying I can't have animated uploads.

Dp: I've also tried uploading through the url address but with and without those numbers I get 'invalid url'.

I've cancelled those numbers in my signature and when I click on that link it takes me to the picture I need. Is the link at least visible? I just need to get that pic in my signature. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

ooohhhhhhhhhh :D

Mac, dp (anyone that isn't me:D) 'signature permissions' says 'no' to uploading animated images. Is that my problem? Simply that I shouldn't be doing it anyway...?

How weird. It's showing up in your posts at the beginning of the thread, then *poof*, it's gone.

Don't do anything to your sig Fallen.

Mac and I will fix it.

ETA: There's something odd going on, but I'll have to revisit it later 'cause I gots a deadline.

Mac, Med -- so sorry. I may have been messing why you were trying to sort it. I've not touched it since and won't touch until I get the all clear. As it stands at the moment, I can see the avatar itself on this particular post, but it's missing on some up there ^. I don't know if all you're seeing is a link to it.

Trust me to touch something and cause a few headaches.

...and this one is without a signature.

Here, in "Quick reply", under the lower right corner of the box where I type, I can switch it on and off for each posting.

This can happen accidentally, if you skip to the checkbox with the "tab" key and hit the space bar...

Cheers,
Val

...and once you've switched it off, it may remain so until you switch it on again. I don't know if and when my browser would automatically restore the default setting.

Did that help?

(Switching back on)

Okay, not going anywhere near my signature itself...

I switched on the signature for the post that was missing my signature pic up there ^ (doh. Cheers, Val), and the pic is there now. I've checked back through my old posts and the picture is there also.

So, as it stands at the moment I can see a winged girl in my signature, I just need to know if anyone else can see too, or are they getting just a link?

Not messing, though. Gonna leave going in there until it's made safe (mainly from me).

*does a twirl* and the wings work too. :D

I'm blaming my 8yr old... she wanted to see it every time I posted a message. The trouble we cause for a grin off our kids...

hm.. I never knew the forums didnt read and based on their ending extension. I guess thatś kinda of new feature needed to be implemented in the future :) Based on extension recognizance rather than user input.
The problem Fallen was having was user-error, not software. Your comment doesn't actually make sense--the last thing you want is any sort of data acceptance system that trusts user-generated file type data.

"Yes, I'm a jpg; just ignore my payload and believe my extension."

Now that doesn't sound bad at all, "Yes, I'm a jpg; just ignore my payload and believe my extension." will make all our lives easier, just ditch the image if it can't render.
