The "Hounding After Hours" thread is over a year old and is over 20,000 posts. I thought, as a fun little celebration of being a horror hound, I could host a little contest.

The theme is "Hounding" and entrants must write a quick, 500-700 word snippet based on someone being hounded by someone or something.

Contest launches today. You have three weeks to write, revise and edit your snippet. Please remember to polish, polish, polish. The prizes are worth that effort. Trust me. All stories must be turned in to me, via PM, by July 26, 2010. I will, however, be lenient on those with time differences.

Once the stories are complete, PM them to me and I will post them anonymously in the horror SYW three weeks from now. Voting will commence after (I will post voting instructions when that time comes) and the winners will receive:

1st place: A one year subscription to Necrotic Tissue gifted by me, a copy of issues 1 & 2 of Shock Totem Magazine, a twenty dollar gift card to B&N and $30.00 cash (paid via paypal).

2nd place: A fifteen dollar gift card to B&N, a gently used copy of "The Keepsake" by Tess Gerritsen, a copy of the issues 1 & 2 of Shock Totem magazine and $20.00 cash (via paypal).

3rd place: A gently used copy of "Phantom Prey" by John Sandford, a copy of issues 1 & 2 of Shock Totem magazine, a ten dollar gift card to B&N and $10.00 cash (via paypal).

Thanks to an anonymous donor (who wishes to remain so), each place winner will now also receive a cash prize. Thank you to this very sweet person for their generosity and kindness.

K. Allen Wood, editor of Shock Totem magazine has offered to give all three place winners a copy of both issues one and two of Shock Totem magazine. A big, HUGE thank you to Ken for his generosity. He totally rocks.

I love all my fiendish friends here in the Horror Hound Compound. This is for you guys.

Now start frigging writing!!! What are you waiting for???

ADDED NOTE: Voting will begin on Tuesday, July 27th and will continue for one week. The winners will be announced the following Thursday and prizes will be sent out that Friday. Instructions for voting will be posted next Tuesday, after I post the stories in SYW for your consideration and reading pleasure.

Sleep... Those little slices of Death. How I loath
I finished my July Prompt, so I've started mine. And...

... I go see the surgeon next Wed. He could schedule my surgery as soon as next Friday, so I need to have it finished by then or I probably won't be able to enter.

time difference?

so.... does that cover people like me who are, as I like to say, "deadline challenged?" (soon to be a recognized disability from the AMA, I promise. Just as soon as I amass a few million to spend on lobbying.) :D

.... and, you know, I'm kind of thinking I'd rather win second place. I haven't been able to buy anything from a bookstore in the *longest* time.

There's a B&N gift card for first prize too, I just forgot to put it in there yesterday. It's been added now, as well as the amounts for the cash prizes. :)

Oh and no time differences don't apply to you, Boston. You're in the same timezone as I am. You get no breaks, bro. Sowwies. :D

You have until the 26th to get your entry in. Steve, if you need to get yours in early, I'll make sure it is entered into the running--and I'm sure we can arrange to get your prizes to you should your story be one of the top three.
I'll be done (with luck) before the surgery. And hopefully (and with luck again) I won't spend more than a week in the hospital for this one.

Here's hopin!:D

A dark, evil place.
Those all apply to me, but nope. I meant that our friends in the UK and other such areas will get a bit of leeway, bub.

You, my friend, are a card.
Not to pick on our UK other Europeans, Asians, Australiansand Kiwilanders, but it's actually earlier there than it is here. By my calculations, they should have had their stories in last Thursday.

What an awesome contest and the prizes are kick-ass! I'm not sure if I'll be able to enter because of other writing commitments, but Effie, you are amazing for putting this together.

Are members that seldom on rare occasion have never visited the horror forum allowed to enter, even if we might not be well-versed in how to write horror lack imagination suck?

Just curious.
