Is this setup fee normal for POD format:

Should Author elect to have the Work published in POD format for a reasonable setup fee of $90.00, such election is required to publish the Work in POD format and shall be made on the signature page of this Agreement.

I get nervous when anyone mentions a setup fee for anything (and this is the only format they charge a setup for if you choose it), but as far as POD format goes, I haven't got a clue what's 'normal' and what isn't. I'd be grateful for any advice.

Thank you:)

Look up. you see that bright star in the sky? I li
POD's seem to, at times, ride the line between Legit and Vanity publishing. I think in this instance the press has crossed the line. Fee's, any fee's at all, implies (IMO) a lack of commitment on the part of the publisher and should be a deal-breaker. POD or not, you want a publisher who has a vested interest in making your book a success. You want their money on the line so they push for sales and marketing.

I think there are some good POD's (or ebook/pod combos) out there, but none of the one's I'm thinking of charge any fee's at all.

Plus, 90.00 is nothing. That they would compromise how they look to the rest of the industry for such a small amount raises the hair on the back of my neck.
