Word moves entire paragraph to next page

I've tried unclicking the widow/orphan thingy plus pretty much anything else I've found as a suggestion. Nothing works.

I have the first paragraph on page 1, then the rest of the text on pages 4 and 5. Nothing on the rest of page 1 and nothing on pages 2 and 3!

The only way I was able to get the text to move up is to completely eliminate formatting, but this is a pre-set resume template, and the style/formatting itself is what I love the most. When I began posting, everything was on page 1 and at some point moved and now I can't get it back.

If anybody can suggest something, please!! Or if somebody is willing to take a look at the document and fix it, I'll email it to you. It's just my resume, so I don't mind somebody reading it.

It sounds like 'Keep with next' is turned on, and you need to turn that off. The setting should be in the same place you found widow and orphan control. Try that and let us know what happens.

ETA: I'm pretty good at troubleshooting Word and will be happy to look at your file. If turning off 'Keep with next' doesn't work, PM me and I'll send you my e-mail address. (Alternatively, you can get it off the home page of my site, URL in my sig.)

Thanks. I was able to move the text up but now I can't type under the headlines from both page 1 and 2 and can't seem to be able to align text. When I was able to write, what it did was send the text to the next page. Sent you a PM.

Well, that turned out to be an interesting problem.

I'm posting what we found in case anyone else has a similar problem.

When NewKidOldKid sent the file to me, it looked fine at first glance. It's a two-column file (not a manuscript, obviously), but it turned out that no text typed under the last heading in the second column of the first page appeared. I added some gibberish text, and that's when I got the first clue. Even though you couldn't see anything, a teensy-tiny red squiggle appeared.

I selected the line, and sure enough, the text was one-point white. As soon as I changed it to a proper size and colour, voila!

Problem solved.

This looks like a Word template got off the internet, so if you're working with something like that and you get unexpected results, it's always a good idea to look at the settings for a particular line to see if you can spot what's gone wrong. In this case, one-point white-on-white text was, naturally, impossible to see!
