Here's a short doc I produced that takes a peek under a Victorian lady's ball-gown, circa 1863.

Romance author Deeanne Gist commissioned professional seamstress Kelly Cochran to make her a Victorian ball-gown to wear at author's signings, seminars, events and getaways.

Enjoy.

I've seen that....and her blog about it. It's just gorgeous.

I'm in the process of making an 1872 outfit for myself. Have the underthings done and all the supplies for my corset. If I could peel my fingers away from the keyboard long enough to use my sewing machine maybe I'd get farther *lol*

WOW I just posted it twenty minutes ago! Yeah, it's a beautiful gown. I happen to know both women, and was pleased to do a short doc on it.

I wish I could see it in person...the detail she put into it is amazing!! I hope I can do as well with my own attempt!

(as far as seeing it so quick, I happened to be searching for the topic about ten minutes before I saw this post *lol* Coincidence!!)

Kelly is borderline obsessive-compulsive about details. Which is exactly what you want in a costumer.

Oh definitely. I'm being very anal about mine...down to materials. I was going to knit my own lace, but with 3 kids (one currently very ill), writing, a husband and an attempt at a life...I just don't have time to tat...I'm lucky to get sewing and writing in at all.

Apparently, the dress is going to be worn at the RomCon convention in Denver - next month? Then I think the undergarments are going to be worn under a different dress, If I am not mistaken - at a "Getaway with Dee" weekend at the Biltmore estate.

Man! I hope she comes to ACFW in Sept. and wears the gown. Several of us who write medievals are going to try for costume for the awards banquet. Should be pretty cool if it works out.

I'm working on authentic-looking 14th C. wear, and joining the SCA to figure out how to do it. I'm hopeful I can pull it together.

Holy awesome sauce, Batman!

I have a Godey's Lady's Book (it's a bound copy of around a dozen issues), but nothing beats seeing the stuff live. Well, internet-live.

But she did not have a corset cover! I thought they were essential wearing at the time. And pockets?
