Replying to Agents...

Got a few rejections (and two partial requests XD) today, my very first. I'm just wondering if it's ok for me to send them a quick reply back thanking them for getting back to me etc.

It seems kind of rude not to do so but, then I'm thinking that me just replying to thank them would clutter up their inbox.

So, thanking an agent for taking the time to read my query and get back to me, is it ok to do so?

Just don't wanna seem rude by not giving them a thanks

No, you don't send a thank you for a query rejection.

You are definitely not expected to thank an agent for a form rejection. I personally find it annoying when a querier thanks me for rejecting them - it's just another thing crowded up my inbox. I've seen blogging agents (I don't remember which ones right now) express annoyance too.

Ditto what the others have said.

I'm from Texas, so we're pretty well hardwired for "Thank you" no matter what, and I used to send those replies, but most of the agent blogs I've read would rather not get them. So, I stopped. They clutter the inbox and make weeding through it that much more difficult.

Ditto. Don't do it.

The only time I've thanked an agent is if they gave me a referral. I think that deserves a thank you.

If they're form rejections, no need. If they're personalized, you COULD, but really, I don't see it making that much of a difference.

I agree. In general it's just clutter, particularly for a form rejection. If they gave you really insightful feedback, or if it was a personalized rejection on a partial or full or something, though, I'd do it.
