I've had this half-baked idea to do a video game script... I'd also be doing concept art for it. Anyway... is this too out there to do? Who would I pitch it to when I'm done? How exactly would that process even work? How would you write for the attacks, battle system, ect? Would you do storyboards for that instead of writing it? Am I getting in over my head?
Thanks XD

First, you should google "game design document". That's the attacks, battle system, etc. The actual script for a videogame is much like the script for a comic book or animated movie, it's mainly dialogue and visual description of characters and setting. If the story is non-linear you might want to use a flowchart instead of a standard linear script. Game scripts do have storyboards if they call for cutscenes (movies that play within the game). Many games use scripted scenes instead (this uses the regular character models or sprites of the game for plot scenes instead of making a movie with original animation.

But, you cannot pitch and sell a video game script in the same way you could a movie script. Big-name video game companies pretty much don't buy scripts, they write them by committee much like Disney does.

Well my idea for my video game was like Kingdom Hearts, where everything is animated and awesome.
So, that may present a challenge. Thanks for the tip about the document ^_^ That'll help a lot.

I was wondering about this too, if you can pitch gaming scripts or how you even write something like that, my guess is that it is very hard because game companies like to think of the concepts then hire out writers to flesh out the stories, interesting new forum of writing though
