Okay, it's been kind of quiet in here lately! where is everyone?

Let's liven this forum up a little!

So. How much raunch does your book have? a little? a lot? vanilla? sweet and tender? wild and crazy?

my book has, at present, about 3 actual sex scenes, each which show a different side of my characters.

I want to show the passion between my FMC and my MMC, I want to show that she's in charge sometimes, and I also want to show how much they love each other.

I still feel awkward re reading those scenes, although once I've worked on them some more, I'll have a friend read them and cringe until she's done. They really need to be in context, and at present, they're not fully anchored into the story.

SO! your turn!

The one I've just finished is a saucy one! They start shagging in Chapter 3 and I think there's about ten actual described sex scenes and at other times there's off page sex. I just hope I've kept them all distinctive and different and very specific to that stage of the story. If there's one thing I can't stand it's sex scenes that could be shuffld around into different places in the story and nobody would notice. I didn't add them to have loads of sex, I swear. It was just the way the story worked out.

The new one I'm about to start writing doesn't have as many, mostly because they don't start having sex as soon as in the last one. However they definitely want to, so I hope that keeps up the intensity and tension until they actually get to it. Mmm... UST, my favourite thing to write. :D

Mine are m/m romance, but I don't think that makes a difference to the amount of sex. I've read some in that genre with loads of sex, some with hardly any. And ditto for m/f, so I guess it's really just down to the story and the characters.

What a timely post. I spent last weekend working on a couple scenes for my WIP that include sex between my two main characters and one sex where my female MC, um, takes care of business "solo". *That* one was really awkward to write.

I will probably have fewer than five actual sex scenes in my novel and two or three of them occur off page. But there's a lot of tension leading up to the sex and that's the thing I'm trying to really concentrate on.

My WIP is primarily women's fiction, with a strong love story and I was wondering how graphic to be with it. There's definitely a "tone" I want to convey but I'm still not sure how much heat I'll actually put into the scenes yet.

I also cringe when I think of people I know reading my sex scenes. Strangers, I don't care. But friends, family, etc...? Yikes.

I've told my mum she's not allowed to read the one I've got coming out in September as I don't want her having another stroke :D

The books in my sig are 'sweet', but this next one is, well, not sweet, that's for sure.

my novel is women's fic, and i think the main reason i couldn't venture into straight romance is that i'm too much of a wimp to write a full sex scene. i have three serious make-out scenes (god, saying it like that makes me feel about fifteen) and three fade-to-black scenes.

and yeah, my dad read my manuscript a few days ago, and i'm visiting. i had to sit here and watch him, and all i could think was 'oh god, is he at chapter 9 yet? oh no, is he reading chapter 13?'

that was a small slice of hell...

I post more in erotica lately.

That should answer your question.

Well, let's see . . . my current MS, the one I'm currently revising, is probably at a "sensual" or "spicy" rating . . . two real love/ sex scenes, plus a good 4-5 making out or interrupted before things could "proceed" sorts of scenes.

At first, writing love scenes was embarrassing, but I think I've mostly gotten over it. In fact, I have an idea for (what I think would be) a really scorching erotica or "romantica," if I can get up the courage to write it. :)

My WIP is more of the sweet and tender variety. Geez, that sounds like I'm describing spring vegetables! :)

The stuff I write that has a strong romantic element sways very mild. Not sure how much there's a market for it, but that's me :)

For my current WIP...so far, written one detailed sex scene, and there will be another, though it will fade to black.

And my MCs make out. A lot. And I love to describe it when they do ;)

Hmm, my Regency coming out in July is very much on the sweet side. Ironically, my paranormal mystery that comes out next Feb. is much, much steamier. Go figure.

Sinfully sweet (my Wild Rose, and Amira releases) to sweetly sinful ( my Siren/Bookstrand and Liquid Silver releases)

I don't count the number of sex scenes, they occur as character/story development. Sweetly sinful is fully described, sinfully sweet is just the build up or a bit beyond. Oddly enough, sinfully sweet are my better sellers.

Our editor always insisted there be at least one. The trouble was, the books we wrote really didn't have room for the scenes in the book. The action made it difficult to be plausible. But there's always at least one. Except in the book out today. One kiss, and not that long of a scene. No sex at all in book 2 of the same series and one "close but no touching" in book 3. The switch to urban fantasy is working better for our style. :)

But when I do sit down again to write romance, it'll probably be romantic suspense and then I can turn up the heat. :D
