Nathan Bransford suspensification contest

So I'm a suspense person, as most of us know. Nathan's having a contest: 500 words, most suspensey scene wins.

I'm gonna give it a go (I always do lol). Anyone else looking to enter? I've got to find a scene that might work, mostly because I'm too lazy at the moment to write an original one. Might change my mind before Thursday, though.

I'm actually kind of nervous about this because this is my thang.

Losing when it's your thang is kinda like...shameful. :tongue

Alleycat, I sent you a PM, though I'm thinking I might just post these puppies over in SYW and see what people think. I might be able to get a few opinions before tomorrow, ne?

ETA: Here's my options if anyone wants to vote for me. Down to four at the moment.

I entered last night. God knows why.
I'd had a smallish glass of whiskey last night and decided to enter for the fun of it.
My scene is a horse race. I think it's around 182-185.

I think mine is decent, but sadly I don't think I'm good enough to compete. Which is probably why I can't get an agent.

There have been surprisingly few entries so far this time. I'm wondering if that means there are going to be fewer overall, or that everyone is going to post at the last minute. Weird. There were almost three thousand total when he did the opening paragraph contest, and the YA one was pretty huge, too. Then again, a lot more people write YA than suspense, huh?

But I'd still think most people would have at least some suspenseful scene in their books, no matter the genre. Well, most anyway. Anyway I'm fine with fewer entries. Ups my odds, some.

I just read yours, and I have to say, I might as well throw in the towel now. :flag:

Mine is wayyyyy down the list, about # 179 or #180, I lost count. It's under "Anonymous", of which there are at least two others. It's a chase scene from my WIP. I had to use the CTRL+F function and type in "Kelli" to find it.
