Our local library often cycles out their books because it's such a tiny library it's the only way to be able to bring in new reading material. They do it by frequency of checked out. If it's been a long time they go in the bin for 25 cents a piece.

I got the entire Children of the Lion series this way as well as several middle grade readers for my kids.

Well they just got rid of their entire collection of classics done up as graphic novels for kids. I scooped them up so fast. We're talking Sherlock Holmes, Frankenstien, Black Beauty and many many others. There were 20 in all. My kids 9,7,4 are enthralled by them. The older two read to the youngest and they are soaking up the classics. I am so excited. I thought what a great way to get my kids familiar with the older literature. And they're hard back!

Agreed - that's awesome. I've spent a small fortune collecting the classics for my kiddos and while it's been worth it, I would've loved to have used that money for more shelves.

I love library sales Here, if you give them something like 5$ to become a "friend of the library" you are given a chance to pick through the books at a pre-sale sale.

I was so grateful to find this. I spent 5 dollars on all twenty and my kids think they are the greatest. My eldest told me today about the ones she has been reading and picked out her next one. She's read Frankenstein, Tale of Two Cities, Sherlock Holmes, and Moby Dick already. Next one up is Around the World in 80 Days. I figure if I can get her to love these stories before the school system has a chance to grind them in maybe she'll still love them when they're finished. I swear the schools around here turn more kids off reading than onto it with their laundry list of requirements when it comes to reading. I wish they would focus more on building the love of reading rather than the chore of reading, reporting, disseminating, analyzing, and testing.
