I have just finished writing a kid's poetry book. It is 100 poems long, approx 9000 words long. I am happy with it, and am hoping it is good enough to attract attention. Just about to send it out.
However, is it delusional to think that kid's poetry has a chance? If you are an unknown, will it go straight in the slush without a glace?
I have several other books going, so I am going to keep on writing them, and send the poems.
Here are a few samples:
Just silly
Flabbergasted
I really do fail to see,
What this all has to do with me
All I did was stand right over there,
So why did they all stop to stare?
I don't think that I am strange,
Didn't they ever see a person change?
Jump Rope Champion
I am the reigning jump rope queen,
The fastest twistiest jumper ever seen
I can do tricks better than all the rest,
Criss-Cross, double-dutch, I'm the best
But,
I lost when I made the terrible mistake,
When competing against a jump roping snake
After all, it is too hard to beat,
An animal who is all rope and no feet
Lucky snake doesn't worry about tripping,
He never tangles up or has to stop skipping
But, I guess it could’ve been much worse,
I could’ve jumped rope against an octopus
Spare Parts
Dr Frankenstein needed some body parts,
Accidently sent Igor who was none too smart
Igor brought back a cauliflower brain,
And that is why the monster is a vegetarian
That's OK, in fact it is marvelous,
That the monster should be harmless
