Hi guys! I'm not sure if this is the correct/best place for this or not. Mods will you please move it to wherever it should go if not here? Thank you. :)

I can not seem to stay logged in at AW. I have AW on my favorites tool bar and normally I simply click and I'm already logged in. Sometime in the past couple of days it will not seem to save my pre-logged in setting and I don't know why. I have been hitting the "remember me" button each time to no avail. I have tried resaving my favorites link to AW after I've logged in but it will not save the setting. I also cannot get the password protected section of Memoirs to accept the password, even when I tried using a cut and paste version of the password. Is this some sort of pergatory ban where I just get annoyed into banning myself or is there some idiot thing I've done to myself?

Of course it's not the end of the world but it's annoying the he** out of me to have to sign in every time. Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing my problem and or how to fix it? I would surely appreciate the help!

Thank you

I saw that McAllister posted a "Fix" for this problem I've been having. Thank you so much for that!!!:)

I had the same annoying problem. Was using IE and my problem remained even after trying to delete the cookies, so I switched to Mozilla Firefox yesterday - removed the cookies per mac's instructions and I'm now duly logged in and remembered.

Plus, I like Firefox even with only a day of using it.

Thanks, too, mac.

vBulletin, the forum software, has changed its cookie format. You need to take an extra step to remove cookies in IE:

Log off AW making sure you know your lD and password for AW
Delete the AW cookies
Quit the browser
Go to your Tools > Internet Options.
Click Delete in the Browsing History
Another dialog box will appear: see the check box that says "Preserve Favorites website data" make sure it isn't checked, because that will preserve cookies for any bookmarked site, even if you try to delete them

Okay - I've tried every suggestion and none have worked. Is there anything else I can try???? :)

Yeah, I keep getting logged out and I use Firefox. I've cleaned out the baking sheet, I mean cookie tray, I mean I polished off all the damned cookies...

And it still logs me out.

Obviously, I log back in. You cannot be rid of me so easily.

Me, too - I'm like a bad penny. :D

Oh, and I'm using Firefox 3.6.3.

Hmmm, I had the same problem using Firefox. But I followed the steps and now it's working fine. Strange...

So what are you two doing wrong? ;)

I ran CCleaner to make sure that all cookies and cached and 'Temp' stuff is gone. Let's see if that does the trick.

Did you check your cookies and make sure the AW cookie is gone? I removed mine manually.

Just asking, you also ticked the Remember me box after typing your password?

I seem to have been rather lucky, I only had to sign in once, and Firefox hasn't given me any trouble.

I've done everything I can think of (and everything I've found here) and it still isn't working right. Now, instead of kicking me off when I've been idle a while, it boots me while I'm reading threads.

GAH!

No, I never do that. We'll see if I'm sorted out yet. Thanks!

Two things that are important

1. Log out before you delete the AW cookies.
2. After you delete the AW cookies, Quit Firefox. Shut all the Windows, and Quit

I don't know if Firefox writes to the Registry on Quit the way IE does; if so, you may have to restart before logging back on.

I know this is frustrating.

It's okay, Medievalist. It's not your fault and the worst thing is that I'll just log back in. Just for the record, I logged out of AW, closed Firefox (my Firefox settings are set to automatically clear everything), ran CCleaner, and rebooted.

We shall see.

I tried - we'll see. :D

What is CCleaner? Is it an antivirus program?

I am such a techno-dolt it isn't funny. :D

This is an insane, and in some ways stupid idea.

Jersey, would you try changing your password? You'd do it via your CP. Make sure you write it down.

If that works, then you can change it back later.

I'll try anything at this point. :D

Nah,it's not working for me. Here's what I did:

-I changed my password
-I logged out of AW
-I closed out my browser (which is set to clear cookies)
-I ran CCleaner (which clears all cookies, temp, cache, nlah, blah, blah)
-I rebooted my machine

And it still logs me out.

Oh, and Jersey Chick, CCleaner is a wonderful free bit of software that cleans out all the little bit and byte detritus from your system to keep it running clean. I have a laptop that's not all that powerful, so I keep it as tidy as possible to maximize its efforts. YOu can check it out here -

Wait... you're using Firefox, right?

Are you using Vista? My laptop runs Windows Vista.

If so, I had to do this as well:'

1. change password
2. log out of AW
3. Clear cookies, etc. out of Firefox
4. Close all programs

THEN:

From the Start button:

1. Go into Control Panel
2. Click on Network and Internet
3. Click on Delete Browsing History and Cookies
4. Under Browsing history, uncheck the Preserve Favorites, and check everything but Passwords
5. Click on Delete
6. Shut down and reboot

That seemed to work for me - if you're running the same OS, maybe it'll work for you.

And thanks for the info on CCleaner - I might check it out. :D

Yeah, I'm using Firefox on Windows XP.

Jersey Chick

Maybe you have to do the same thing in XP? Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Medievalist

You DO need to do the same thing with all browsers under Windows; otherwise Favorites and their cookies are apparently stored as sym links in the Registry.

I've been going round and round with support folk from Microsoft and Mozilla/Firefox, but we're pretty confident that procedure listed by Jersey Chick (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4927670&postcount=29) and by me in this thread will work.

I'm sorry to report that it doesn't. I've done the whole routine twice today and I still get logged out after a period of time.

It's been that kind of day.

I even tried clearing my DNS cache just now, but that didn't do anything either. Eh well. I'll keep an eye out if any solution pops up, but don't wear yourselves out on my account. I know my password. I can always log back in. :)
