Posted this to the wrong forum (goodness there are so many) so I am reposting here. I have already had a sobering reply, but I thought I would put this out there for any experienced playwrites to comment on.

So I'm writing a Musical. Yes, what was I thinking? Truth be told, I wasn't thinking at all... it just started happening. Now I am at a state where if I don't finish it to a point that I can let it go, I will go to my grave with regrets. So I soldier on.

I have had some great advice from a playwrite friend of mine, and combined with some reading here and on other sites, I have written the Bible (complete with logline etc.). The problem is, I don't know when enough is enough.

My question is: how far do you take this before it is a saleable entitiy? I have the high concept, the logline, the character devs (their paths through the story and their inter-relationships), the general plot, a couple of musical numbers (to illustrate the style) and a sample scene. Am I delusional to think that someone would pick this up based on those offerings?

Maybe I dreaming, but what I'd like to have happen is for someone (insert industry pro here) to say "That's fantastic. Here are some thousands of dollars to finish". Every writer's dream I'm sure.

I don't mind if I have to relinquish some control, I don't mind that there are better writers or composers than me that may be brought on board... I just want to get this thing done to some "standard" so that I can let it go knowing I gave it the shot I think it deserves.

Oh... and I'm reluctant to post it anywhere as I worry that someone will steal it. Must I reg with the WG or some such place before I do that here?

Any advice is welcome, thank you.

Frac,
You are a glutton... I wrote a book, a fictional trek about Jesus. I thought some people were going to boil me in oil. Many of the bookstores, after reading it, refused to stock it. Why? Not because it was bad, but rather because it wasn't main stream. How dare I, a mere mortal, suggest any possible story line other than KJ or the knock-offs.
I hope your story has the success that JC, Superstar had.
How many pages is your script?

I've led you astray. The "Bible" I refer to is a document outline of the play itself (which has no religious slant whatsoever). I'm afraid I don't have the fortitude to take on that institution... not yet anyhow. :)

Kudos for doing that yourself. I imagine it would be a tough sell in San Antonio.

Be well

In any field, you approach and cultivate friendships with the leaders in the field. This is what you should do in order to find answers to your problem.
