and now every time I try to use the Word portion my laptop keeps telling me that I have to install Disc 1 to use it. I installed all 6 discs onto my desktop and then onto my laptop and it's only the laptop giving me the message.

Anybody know of a way to get rid of the problem on my laptop?

Thanks,
Candy

Both computers use XP Home Edition. Both are Dell and both came with WordPerfect. I can't figure out how to use those so I bought 8.

All of my updates are updated.

I did try running just the one disc but it still happens.

Thanks,
Candy

I didn't think you were allowed to run multiple copies of MS software without a volume license. Could that be it?

I found recently that, on a laptop where my niece had Word 2000 installed, there was a "free trial" of Word 2007. She accidentally launched this once, and it caused Word 2000 to stop working, yet she couldn't continue to use the trial because she didn't have the license for it.

I had to go through and uninstall every single thing which was MS Office related and then reinstall Word 2000.

Yours is a slightly different situation, but may have the same basic cause - it's possible there was a trial version of Word on your machine and it's causing a conflict with the version you just installed.

Just for clarity, if it is "Suite 8", then it is Works, not Word or Office. That means some key registry (and marketing caused) differences.

The re-install is a pretty good plan. If it does not prompt you to restart your computer after you have uninstalled Works, make sure you do so anyway.

Good Luck.

Got this problem solved. Oddly enough I forgot to install the main disc, so I installed it and then re-installed the first disk and the problem went away.

Thanks for all the help.
