The 79-year-old actor, best known for his iconic performance as Spock on the original Star Trek, told the Toronto Sun he plans to retire from acting after his final appearance on Fringe later this season.

"I've been doing this professionally for 60 years," Nimoy told the paper. "I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time."

He was amazing as Spock, yet I believe there is always a reason for retirement. Leonard's human, and actors just like any other person, don't live for all eternity. I'm glad to know he enjoyed taking pleasure in starring in the Star Trek series.

Or ST:TNG like Stephen Hawking did.

I wonder if he'll ever do anything like this:

Maybe he'll walk onto a starship bridge, look at some monitor, say "Fascinating," and walk off.
Actually, he was on two episodes of ST: TNG. The episode titles are Unification I and Unification II.

It'll be a shame to see him go, but the man is seventy nine. He's more than earned to retire after sixty years in the business.

He did narration work for Ancient Mysteries and did a few guest appearances on Futurama.

He managed to strike the right balance of having a career after an iconic role, honoring that role with further appearances without appearing desperate.

Doesn't he do the voiceover on the "Most Interesting Man in the World" commercials?

Mostly inside my own head.
I was so pleased when he turned up on Fringe; it was great seeing him again.

But, yeah, at 79 he's been acting a long, long time. And Spock is an icon; how many of us will ever be able to say we created an icon? (I know it was Roddenberry's character, but Nimoy made it his.)

I've enjoyed Willam Shatner having a good time with life, and wonder how long he'll keep it up; they're the same age.

Yeah, I'll miss Nimoy. But I'm glad he was able to wrap up his career with a character I thought of as William Bell -- not Spock.

Spock and Frodo helped me survive...May they live long and prosper...and have ample pipeweed.
