David Tennant as Abe Lincoln - Vampire Hunter

This afternoon when I was minding my own business, reading my hot off Amazon's warehouse bookshelves copy of Abraham Lincoln - Vampire Hunter, an idea struck me: wouldn't it be great if David Tennant (from Dr. Who) played Abe Lincoln in a movie about this book? I mean he’s perfect. Tall and lean like Abe, possessing a kind of mysterious quality that would draw you in! Any Seth and Dr. Who fans agree?

I can't quite see it. I like David Tennant, but he's too pretty by halves to play Lincoln.

I agree.

Lincoln was an awesome and terrible historical figure, one who shaped the world for centuries to come.

But he was also UGLY.

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure already warped Honest Abe about as far as he probably should be warped, so I'm having a difficult time keeping my eyes from rolling in their holes over 'Vampire Hunter'. I like David Tennant too much for that. It's hard to imagine that it wouldn't be a big step down for him, but I don't think he'd have a problem cragging up his pretty face for the job.

Well, from what we can tell Cleopatra bore no resemblance to Elizabeth Taylor. Nor was Lawrence of Arabia as pretty as the young Peter O'Toole. Virtually no actor to portray Winston Churchill came anywhere near the actual bloated, lisping reality. Nigel Hawthorne was far thinner and more aristocratic-looking that George III. Derek Jacobi is many times more handsome than Hitler (no great feat, but still...).

David Tennant is a fine actor. If he plays the part, I'm that much more likely to enjoy the movie.

I've never thought Lincoln was ugly. In any case, they won't get an 'ugly' actor to play him anyway--Liam Neeson is or was attached to Spielberg's Lincoln film--and Tennant as the president is an interesting idea.

Zoombie, this is of course my opinionated opinion only. Without spoilers: It's a frame story narrated by an egotistical, whining, self-absorbed, failed writer. By chapter 2 I wanted to punch him. When the story started in on Lincoln's diary, begun at a very young age, the voice of Lincoln struck me as precious, self-righteous, and--alas--dull. I then skipped to the end, saw that the end was as I'd feared, and slammed the thing shut. YMMV.
