Does anyone recall the last time they saw or bought a Wyamine asthma inhaler in a drugstore? The official pull-date was late 1971 but I wondered if it was a few years before the drug was completely gone from American store shelves? The product was over-the-counter and discontinued because it had a metamphetamine base. The time-frame in my story is 1974.

Thanks :)

If they were a discontinued medication, wouldn't they have a shelf-life? I'm thinking that even if they weren't pulled off the shelves immediately, who'd want a 3 year old medication? Wouldn't the drugstore do some sort of periodic inventory/stock control thing?

If the ingredient was declared to be controlled, the manufacturer and distributors could not legally ship any more to the stores for OTC use.

If something was removed from circulation because the contents were declared to be a controlled substance, pharmacies would remove it from the shelves and send it back for a refund. That's what my dad did with recalled and re-classified things.
