Ok, I hope Im posting this in the write place, please don't flog me if Im in the wrong place--my children do that to me often enough as it is and I tell them it's parent abuse. I tried to google to find out what a novel was and it said something about comics...whatever that means. Anyway, has anyone ever read the USS Indianapolis? Would that be considered a novel? I think there should be more books about the world war ii guys that are dying off...not about them dying off,,,about their war experiences...significant historical accounts are slipping away each day that passes by...

I'm not aware of a novel titled USS Indianapolis, though her sinking has occurred or been mentioned as an incident in several novels.

There have been several non-fiction accounts of the sinking of USS Indianapolis.

But to answer your question: A novel is a book-length work of prose fiction.

:Huh:

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I have no idea what's going on in the OP.

Are you referring to this book?

If that's the book you're referencing, then no, it isn't a novel. A novel is, by definition, fiction. IN HARM'S WAY looks like nonfiction.

And, further:

non-fiction = true
fiction = made-up

(Though those definitions aren't without qualifications.)
