Okay, if you're serious, my opinion of PA would be much improved if they did several things.
1) Were honest about being a vanity press. What I got from PA was a bound manuscript with cover art. But, because it is now "published" and still under contract, I cannot do a thing further with it, and likely won't be able to later.
2) Told me before I signed the contract that my 144-page novella would list for $26 in softcover. My book isn't worth even half that.
3) Admitted that being listed on a traditional bookstore's website is not the same as being "sold in stores."
4) Acknowledged that ALL marketing and publicity would be up to me. Instead, they made it sound as if they were spending all night and day promoting my book.
5) Had any standards at all about what they publish, or even read the books all the way through.
These are my chief complaints. Other people have others. Yes, they do pay the $1. No, they do not charge to develop the cover art. You can pay them to edit your book or you can edit it yourself for free. I paid about $100 to buy 10 copies of my own book when it was on sale, and that is all the money they got from me, but only because I didn't believe them when they said I could make millions if I bought a bagillion copies of my book and did the legwork myself.
If what you want is a souvenir to sit on your shelf, you COULD go with PA, but there are other vanity presses out there that will do the same thing without putting stars in your eyes and your book will cost a lot less.
