I have a slightly vague question that I'm hoping someone will be able help me out with.

A lot of the humor I write for my site (in sig) is in the form of interviews, so heavy on the dialogue between two characters and usually taking the intro-middle-twist-end pattern of events. It almost reads like a script I guess.

My problem is I usually struggle with the endings. Specifically, how best to describe the physical actions of the characters without the help of visuals. Does anyone have any good examples on how to do this?

Apologies for the vagueness of my problem. I'm really not sure how to describe it properly. Hopefully one of you guys understood what I am trying to say.

I think I know what you mean. Can you give a link to one of your interview articles as an example of what you're having trouble with?

Let me see if I've got your question right before I try to answer it. ;) You're saying you need help with describing people's actions when all you have is dialogue and no narration, correct? How about having one character comment on another's actions? For instance, let's say your "journalist" tries to steal a pencil off the desk of the interviewee:

JOURNALIST: Thanks for your time, Mr. Interviewee. Any final words?

INTERVIEWEE: Yes, give me back my pencil.

Not perfect, but is this in line with what you're asking?

If there was an award for being able to decipher my rambling thoughts I would give it to you...unfortunately there's no such award, so I'll just say thanks.

That was pretty much what I meant and is a good idea. I was reading some of the humor resources on the site and came across something similar. This is a good tip for me in general. I like the example you gave, I can use that sort of writing all over my work.

Thanks again!
