Technology is changing the face of the publishing world, and smaller publishing houses and self-publishers are stepping more fully into the spotlight.

Will this trend start a new freelance business opportunity for people interested in working as book promoters/marketers?

Not even the big publishing houses handle all the promotional work, expecting the author to do what he or she can to promote their work. Small publishers have even less resources to put towards promoting books, and self-publishing companies leave almost all of it to the authors.

Someone has to create promo bookmarks, postcards, find spots for interviews, and convince bookstores and libraries that their financial well-being depends on getting this particular book on their shelves.

Will more authors start doing the legwork or stick to writing more books while letting someone else market their books?

Any comments or opinions are appreciated since getting into the world of promoting books is of interest to me.
