I'm teaching a 9 weeks poetry class, and I want to buy some extra YA books in verse for my students to use on their projects. I have most of Ellen Hopkins' books, and A Bad Boy Can Be Good For a Girl, but that's about it.

What are some of the best choices/ones that you guys have enjoyed?

Things Left Unsaid by Stephanie Hemphill. I completely, totally recommend it. It's just gorgeous and honest and perfect. . .and I normally don't have the patience for books in verse, so that's saying a lot. :]

I use "Love That Dog" by Creech with my lower level readers (9th graders). It's an easy read about a boy learning poetry in school (who struggles so a lot of my students relate). It's sad, but beautiful.

It's not really YA or suitable for school (has some sexy bits in) but I loved The Emperor's Babe by Bernadine Evaristo. It's about a young black woman in Roman Britain. You could use an extract.

What my Mother Doesn't Know is in verse, isn't it? I heard it was good.

Anything by Steven Herrick is brilliant. He is Australian and I'm not sure what his international status is?

In particular, 'The Simple Gift' is one of his that is part of the syllabus here in Australia and can be selected by teachers to be studied in schools. I adored it as a teen and still do :)
