This--the title of this thread--is the error message I've been getting just about 50% of the time I try to open a PDF file (form) on a particular website. I've never had a problem with them before. I open them from my school account all the time, but tonight, on this other site, they're being bitches.
I click on the name of the file from a list. The file starts to open and the tool bars for a PDF appear and sit there for a moment. Then a new smaller window--the frame of a PDF file--opens and a smaller window inside that wherein the error message appears. The tiny window has a button that says "okay" but it gives no other options.
As I said, it happens to about 50% of the time, but always with the same files, if that makes sense. For example, I can open F1111 every time, but every time I try F1017, it does the error thing. It seemed, at first, to simply be a lot of corrupted files on the website.
But I tried on my wife's 'puter. It was fine. She has an Apple notebook thingy with Firefox and when I clicked on the file name, it gave me the option to open or save. I picked save, and it they saved without incident. At least they seemed to. If they're corrupted somehow, they don't seem to be by site.
As for my 'puter, I'm using Windows Vista, Firefox, and I have Adobe 8.1.
Any ideas? Does it sound like it's my 'puter, or the website? (It's a government website, not some 2$ conspiracy theory bumpkin site with reports by Bob the Alien Abductee and Sasquatch Expert. Just so you know.)
ETA: I'll provide any additional info that I can, but keep in mind that I'm basically a techno-idiot, so... yeah. Anyway... I'm off the bed for a bit. I'll check in soon. Thanks.
