I just picked up Angelology by Danielle Trussoni on audio CD a couple days back. So far the story's kinda interesting but I find myself distracted by the infodumps. I think I'd probably be less distracted if I was actually reading the book as I could skim over them as I saw fit. Another problem is that I find myself questioning the occasional inflection done by the reader that I wouldn't agree with.

On the other hand, I also find myself being more critical of the writing after being here on AW and doing some actual writing over the past couple years. lol

Anyone else reading this book? It's been compared to The Name of the Rose by Eco and Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.

Ok, while I haven't finished the book, I'm almost halfway. Still a lot of infodumps - well, more like tangents. And a lot of over-the-top writing. Not exactly purple prose, just stuff that I personally think is pretty wordy. And there are sections where I'm asking "what does this have to do with the story?" Some of it's where she's doing a lot of world building (thus leading to the tangents) but not all of it. Well, not a lot of it - even in the tangents, I'm still asking "wtf?".

And she just switched from third person to first person. On one hand, it works because it's probably the only way to tell this section of backstory without being massive amounts of infodumping. On the other, I wonder why this wasn't put at the beginning and tell the story in chronological order.
