Hey, all - would anybody be interested in another group project? We've had marvelous results with Blue Rock and with Hollis Brown.

We've also had Absolute Poetry Vol. 1, which ended up well and taught us a lot about how to do it next time.

What does anyone think -- another concept project? I'm thinking. Let's shoot the breeze about it and see what else takes your fancy.

Well, if historical themes happen to be agreed upon by the populace, I happen to have a poem in inventory that begins

There just ain't no disputin'
What a rascal was Rasputin...

How about a collection of poems about things/peoples/places that inspire us? Working title: "Absolutely Inspiring"?

I'm in a dramatic mood today. How about moments of despair, moments of utter joy?

I like the inspiration idea. It inspires me. I'm not sure a purveyor of light verse such as myself will find much inspiration in despair, and joy is more than I find called upon to express generally.

Somewhere or other, I saw an e-zine or a mag of some kind that was taking submissions for poems about writing. I, personally, like to write poems about writing and words and even wrote a poem about a question mark one time.

What about a book about what inspires us and just about our love of writing? The poems could be melded together to present one and then the other.

Also, we could hunt around and see who is taking submissions for competitions of first chapbooks of poetry and see if we could enter as a group, if such a competition exists. If so, we could write for the competition.

Or, we could write a compilation of several different forms of poetry to present a smorgesbord(?) of poetry types and offer brief explanations of our type. As a selling point, teachers could use it to promote poetry to their students.

Or, we could write poems to fit a story line like we did Blue Rock or Hollis Brown. If anyone is interested to that one, I vote that we write about what we see around us as we travel around where we are in the world. That would give the project a real global feel.

Opps......sorry, getting a little carried away.

This is my traveler's heart speaking: how about poems on our favorite places? Since we have a worldwide group, it would be fun seeing all the places represented.

hmmm. Maybe a 'Travels with So-and-So' setup? That could encompass all these ideas.

Hmmm.

i agree that there needs to be a strong theme for the book. a few months back we tried to do a collection where everyone can submit whatever they want. we really didnt get enough submissions to do the book and in the end what we had was very sporadic i dont think it would have flowed as well as it could have.

a theme, at least a general consistent direction i think will make it much more fluid as a book

Nowhere. Now here.
I don't post in the poetry section as often as I sometimes intend, but the travel theme seems to be a great idea. Strong enough that the collection will flow, but not so specific that anyone will feel painted into a corner. :D

I've been thinking more about this, and I like the travel theme. It's a good, open theme and can be treated any number of ways -- the places one goes, the things that happen in strange places, chance encounters, what it feels like to ride a bus, where you stop for lunch (see "Come In... We're OPEN" in Poetry Critique for an example).

And, like the Blue Rock and Hollis Brown projects, the poems can play off each other, sharing characters and events. That made Blue Rock especially interesting.

It's been six months, I know... I hope people will still be interested. Let's go.

Let's do it. I'll put up a discussion thread out here, and a thread for the poems in Critique.

WAIT... a title. "On the Road"? Taken. "Travels with Charley"? Nix. "The Road Less Traveled"? Oh.

Hmm.

"Oh, the Places You'll Go"? "A Tramp Abroad"? "I Met a Traveller?" (Though not necessarily in an antique land.)

I didn't know you kippled. *rimshot*

We could reset it as "A Tramp, A Broad" and make it a Sinatra/Vegas kitsch thing.
