A VERY good article covering children's literature and writing:

Amen, hallelujah, Sister Jane!

(Who, I'm certain, never screamed “Are you f***in’ ready?” like Madonna did before her Live 8 set, knowing children and their parents were in the audience and watching on TV.)

Did you notice she mentioned BIC? Maybe someone can talk her into coming on here as an expert - Aunt Jane.

I thought her comment regarding testing your story on kids was astute:

Children may be a great audience, but if they really want your attention, they'll tell you what you want to hear. Besides saying "Yuck" and "I didn't like it" or "I loved it," their critical vocabulary is not up to what I need for rewriting a book.

Too true. I recently had someone new join my critique group. She would not accept comments that didn't praise her story, because her grandson had loved it. It really had some major problems. "But, my grandson loves it!" She would not listen.
