I am American, but live in Asia. I am looking for an agent to represent me for my novel. I am thinking about looking at a specific agent in the UK because someone I know worked with him and he made sure the book was well published and publicized in both the UK and the US. What are the advantages/disadvantages of a UK agent?

A UK agent will sell your book in the UK (except for some SF/F agents). Might seem obvious but needs saying. The UK market is much smaller than the US market so if you think your work is suitable for the US market then you need a US agent. Most UK agents have sub-agency agreements with US agents, but that is only going to work for you once your book has been picked up in the UK.
