Is there a place she share her work here? Or are their other sites more suited for kids in her age group?

Nathan,

Some of the conversations can get pretty intense and graphic here, even in the Young Adult forums. Not sure about other sites for kids, but that is a good question because my grand-daughter would like to find some kid sites that teaches them writing... Hmmm, maybe a google search is warranted... I will let you know what I find...

Ok, back after a quick google search of writing sites for kids. There were pages of stuff, but here is one of the better sites I found that list sites that may be more appropriate for a 7 year old...

From Rebbecca Fergusons website...

http://www.helium.com/items/58012-creative-writing-sites-for-children

Here are a few from her list...

www.kidsonthenet.com (kids castle, kids spells, dragonsville, monstermotel, etc. fun stuff.

www.kidpub.com

www,kids.creativity-port al.com

www.kidspace.com

She has a lot more info too... Seems like a useful site...

Behind you! Boo.
I have a 10-year-old and I wouldn't let her hang out here. No offense to any posters, of course.

It would probably be better if she could be critiqued by kids in her age group instead of adults. If you decide to go ahead and let her post in SYW, preface it by saying she's 10 and is looking for encouragement.

But again, I wouldn't.

thothguard51 - You make me feel so lazy. Thanks for tracking that down.
WendyNYC - I was thinking somehow they could enter the magic kid bubble and never hear or see any of that. But I'm inclined to agree with you.

Your daughter is too young to join AW. The lower age limit is thirteen I think (or maybe fifteen). Either way, she has some years to go before she can sign up for this site.

Silver King- Thanks. I think we'll check out some of the sites posted by Thoth.

You're welcome. :)

Wish I could remember at the moment what the youngest age is for membership on AW, but I'm pretty sure it's thirteen. Whatever it is, and someone will be along eventually to verify that number, it's a legal requirement, not just an arbitrary age devised by this site's owner.

Silver King has the right of it -- We can technically allow younger users, with a hard-copy parental consent form, but I'm giving serious thought to removing that option. I love this place, but it's not a small-kid-oriented message board.

If she has a sense of humor like that, I'll look forward to her joining in a few years.

AlleyCat - I think it could be enjoyable for her here. I think she is very creative and funny but I'm a real Homer when it comes to my daughter.

If I had a ten-year-old daughter, I don't think I'd let her join even if it were allowed. As a writing website, it needs to be fairly tolerant of language and themes, but it's probably not right for those under thirteen.

I'm thinking there are other writing websites for children. PBS might have something, or even the BBC.

AW. A very nice place!
... what you might do, Nathan, is copy posts here that you find informative and then paste them into an ordinary Word document for your daughter to read. Maybe you could even do this with whole threads in the writing forums, if there is a way to copy whole threads, somehow. Good luck to the youngster. Becoming a writer is a long journey and it's good, as such, to start young.

AlleyCat - Yeah, I think we're going to get her started on another website.

Ken & shaldna - That's an excellent idea. It could be informative. But it could also be something funny or creative that I think she'll understand. It would give me a chance to remove anything I don't want her to see.

Hey, have you thought about starting a "kidlit" website? One where younger people can post their work and get gentle but constructive feedback. I've never researched it, but it seems that most websites for younger people only allow the members to post their work, but don't have much in the way of organized feedback (if allowed, the comments are something like, "I really, really, really liked the story, Brenda!!!!!!!!"). I could be wrong about this.

Check out BigDifBooks.com, as in the "Frog" add banner at the top of the Forum pages.
